City/Town: Zurich
Event Type: Drinks/Bar
Meeting Point: Münz bar / St. Peter church

Why not do something else than dinner for a change (but, yes, we will get together for dinner, again, soon, as well)?

What: Concert of violinist Deborah Marchetti, a young Swiss violinist who (together with the Orchesterverein Zurich) performs Mozart's Linzer Sinfonie (KV 425) and Beethoven's Concert in D-major for violin and orchestra, op. 61. So, it should be an "accessible" program.

Where: Kirche St. Peter, Zurich (that's the one with the big clockface, not far from Bahnhofstrasse)

When: Friday, September 28; concert starts at 8.15 p.m.

Who: Everyone.

And before the concert: We meet at the Münz bar (added: at 7 p.m.), which is off Bahnhofstrasse, too. Directions at http://www.swissguide.ch/de/Restaura...riazurmnz.html
Those who want to stay there can do so, the others go to the concert.

Getting tickets at the event will be no problem, the church is
quite big. Tickets cost CHF 30, students get a discount.

Anyone interested?

Great to have you on board! Actually, I already had two sign-ups off list, so, I hope that makes it less scary :-).

Sorry, I forgot to put the time. We meet at the bar at 7 p.m. If I remember correctly, there is a somewhat elevated central area in the bar, and we will be there. I will also ask the people there to send everyone asking for the Englishforum our way.

Looking forward to seeing you
Idgie

Wow! I'd love to come to this, but do you know how formal (or otherwise) this event will be? I'm arriving in Zurich only a day or two beforehand, so I'll be living out of a couple of bags for a few weeks If I turn up in a jean skirt, am I going to get funny looks, and/or thrown out? Sorry if this is a silly question, but I'm new to Switzerland and I have no idea how formal something like this would be.

Re: Drinks and classical concert in Zurich

Hi, Reiko

Welcome to Zurich!

Great - the more the merrier. No worries - this is a low price concert in a church. I expect that the artists and some very few others will be in full gear and many people in the crowd will be in smart casual, but the majority will be just tidy but casual. Even in the opera, you will always have some people in (clean, of course) jeans and t shirts, and no one frowns at them. I would recommend taking a long sleeved shirt or a jacket along, though, as it can be a little colder in the church than outside.

By the way, the seats are not numbered, so that we can all go and sit together, even if someone should decide to get a ticket in advance. I have bougt some additional tickets when I bought mine, already, and they still had enough (as I said the church is bigger than one would think when seeing it from the outside), so not to worry about that.

Looking forward to meeting you
Idgie

Re: Drinks and classical concert in Zurich

Just so you know how to find us: I have made a reservation at the Münz under "English Forum".
I expect that we will leave from there at about 7.40.
See you there
