"Proper" Sunday Roast (Part Two)
Calendar: Social Events
JLF
Forum Veteran

20.11.2011 15:00 to 23:00
*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Adliswil (Zurich)
Event Type: Dinner
Meeting Point: Pot Belly's, Soodring 21

Come one, come all! The proper Sunday roast is on...AGAIN!

The doors open at 15.00 for us and the buffet will start between 15.30 and 16.00. It will be all-you-can-eat until it is gone or until around 19.00 (whichever comes first). The bar will stay open (with pool included in the cost) until around 23.00.

Menu (there will be, at a minimum, the following):
Two Roast Meats (most likely pork and beef)
Roast Potatoes
Mashed Potatoes
Fresh Steamed Veggies
Yorkshire Puddings
Gravy
Dessert: Apple Pie and Custard
Drinks are *not* included

Price: 49.50CHF if paid in advance by Friday 18.November.2011
59.90CHF if paid at the door

Kids 12 and under: 25CHF---the venue also has a little play area for them

Location:
Pot Belly's
Soodring 21
8134 Adliswil
http://www.potbellys.ch/

It is a short 14 minute ride on the S4 from the Zurich main station (you do need a zone extension). Trains run every 20 minutes off track 1, and Pot Belly's is literally above the Sood-Oberleimbach stop. There is some parking available nearby as well.

You can pay me directly, through an IBAN deposit or through "cash" in the mail, both of which require PM exchanges (easy). Or you can go to Pot Belly's and pay in person (also easy if you live nearby). If you decide the latter, please let them know you are from the EF. And either way, please let me know by indicating your method of paying in YOUR RSVP so that we have separated who pays directly to the restaurant and who pays directly to me... Logistically, you all don't care about this but it matter to us organizers, so please help me out by doing this.

Remember, ALL are welcome!!

Any questions, let me know. Looking forward to it!

Re: "Proper" Sunday Roast (Part Two)

As this is an effort on the part of JLF, I think it is prudent to link his poll

And reiterate that he is just organizing the event, not making money out of it.

@JLF The first reaction to your post (without having read your poll) be we was asking why is this not in commercial events.
As I learnt today, it is better not to haste in judgement.
Unfortunately I would not be able to make it as I am not much of a pot roast person.. however, appreciate your enthusiasm, zeal and commitment

Yep, as mimi says, I am a girl.

It is interesting you bring this commercial/social event up as a point of possible contention. I am definitely in a gray area here. This is only the second time this event is taking place. I am organizing the EF people, I am not making any money from doing it, and it is "my" event. But it is also a "commercial" event in the sense that they (meaning Pot Belly's) are marketing it on their website. This is part of the reason why we are asking how you will pay... It gives us an idea of who even knows Pot Belly's outside this event (and other ones I organize there), and if people would even know about the Roast taking place without the EF (or me organizing it).

The premise we have been operating under is that this will become a once-a-month thing at the restaurant, barring the first go wasn't a fluke. Thus, in the future, assuming this event goes well again, it would be my guess that we will be "moved" to commercial events.

Does this answer your questions/concerns?

Re: "Proper" Sunday Roast (Part Two)

Quick question - is there a cut-off date for 'pre-payment' and RSVP? Since I assume there is, what's the date?
(Hopefully this will avoid some of the issues that caused trouble last time ... although the cut-off date was clearly stated last time ...)

Re: "Proper" Sunday Roast (Part Two)

Sorry for mixing up the gender
No concerns or question.
I just thought that from the first glance it appeared to be a commercial event hence clarified it

My 2 cents is if an event is organized with the aim to profit (nothing wrong there) then it is commercial.
just because people have to pay for an event does not make commercial.
AFAIK when we meet up at the bar for drinks, each pays for their own.

For your little one, you will pay nothing. If he is only eating baby food or perhaps a bit of mashed potato or custard from your plate, then there is no reason to pay anything for him. But for example, mimi's little one ate a plate or two on her own last time (and she was only two at the time!!) and so mimi paid the 25CHFs for her.

If the kid is old enough to eat from his/her own plate and/or has a rather large appetite, then it is better the adult(s) pay for him/her... If anyone has any questions about this, just let me know.

I don't need confirmation until the Friday before the event. And if you don't know by then, but then you end up in town, you can still come. It just costs you 10CHFs more at the door (per person). . .

Re: "Proper" Sunday Roast (Part Two)

For anyone being put off by spending the afternoon in a pool hall, it's really not like that.

It's a nice place, not at all dark and dingy. And there's a decent bar and seating area. The sort of place I'd happily go for a night out if I lived nearer.

And the food last time was great. The chef might be Swiss, but he definitely knows how to cook proper roasties, yorkies and horseradish.

Of course! I am sending out the IBAN info today or tomorrow. This doesn't mean you can't join after I send it though. The rules are a lot less strict this time around.
