City/Town: Fleurier
Event Type: Dinner
Meeting Point: Mountains above Fleurier

Hello all!

After discussions, we have decided to throw a Christmas Dinner bash in the Neuchâtel area. Odile has very kindly offered to host and we are now trying to organise numbers and other details.

The choices for the meal are: traditional turkey dinner, fondue chinoise or raclette. There is a poll where you can vote for this in a separate thread here as I can't see any way of attaching a poll to an event (mods, please do so if it's possible!).

If you say you're coming and can't make it with less than one week's notice, then I'm afraid we'll still have to ask for around £10 (this is the currency I was given, but please feel free to correct ) as a contribution towards the cost of the food.

The location is an old farm in the mountains above Fleurier. You can either drive or get the train to Fleurier and take a bus up (very easy to do).

Hope you can make it!!!

Belgianmum has added very important information and details to the end of this thread - please read!!!
RSVP'd Yes: 25 (14 members and 11 guests)

  • SmileJLY

  • edot + 1 guest - Looks like I can come! Yay. If it's raclette I can also bring a raclette thingy. I can bring a flourless choc cake, bottle of red wine and some mineral water.
  • faeirywoman + 1 guest - yeah dont think i'll bring the 2 girls after all (the last break did me the world of good) but i'll bring my man this time :) looking forward to seeing some of you again :) and meeting the rest of you :)

  • Mag + 1 guest - I'm looking foward to it! We will bring a bottle of red wine, a bottle of juice, and a fruit salad for dessert, as well as our 8-person raclette machine. We are planning on taking public transportation to get there (from Fribourg).

  • Sbrinz - Sorry we won't be coming. Have a great time!
  • Peg A
  • Nyonais - Unfortunately, but just as expected, a trip is coming up for which I will most probably have to travel on the 3rd Dec., so we will not be able to make it. This would have been our first EF event and I was quite looking forward to it. Wish all of you a ...

Re: Neuchâtel area Christmas Dinner

ooops re the £10 = 15CHF! the cost of the evening will be kept to absolute minimum and will be split fairly between attendees- but as said shopping will have to be done about 1 week in advance, so if you put your name down and cancel at the last minute (less than 1 week before) then I hope you'll agree it would be fair to pay a cancellation 'fee'. Sorry about that (twice bitten, etc).

Hope many can come, can sit about 40 in Ye Olde Parish Room here. If some are coming from further away, stay over (first come , first serve). Off to UK next week, so leave this event in the good hands of BelgianMum and Kamarate in the meantime.

Sorry, maybe I should have stated "no maybes please". I think you can still a maybe for a while, but in order to get a really accurate representation of how many people are seriously thinking about coming, could you please change to "yes" or "no" ASAP? Thanks.

Re: Neuchâtel area Christmas Dinner

This is a lovely offer! I have seen many people let down badly in the past for various reasons.

May I suggest you ask everyone for a CHF 20 deposit with the booking? You can then hand back the change, if any, at the dinner. And CHF 20 per head is not expensive! I can bring a Christmas pudding. At what time were you thinking of starting?

.

I think it is a very generous gesture on your part, Odile, and I hope it will be seen as such by everyone on both forums.
I'm just very sorry that I will again be in London on 4th December.
I hope the event has the success it deserves.

Re: Neuchâtel area Christmas Dinner

Thanks for setting this up guys.

I would have suggested the deposit idea too (something like JLF did in the Sunday dinner thing) as I don't think anybody should be out of pocket here.

It's easy to say if you cancel with more than a week to go you have to pay but it's much harder to actually then coillect the money from these people especially if they're people you don't normally see.

Re: Neuchâtel area Christmas Dinner

I'd love to go - so many to meet, perfect for celebrating the holiday too!

I have to try to convince my hubby though, he IS supposed to be on vacation at that time, so hopefully I can do some mighty convincing.

"Re: Neuchâtel Christmas Dinner poll
4th of December lunch-time.

ahaha I now know who you are Sbrinz! And thanks for the offers of help.
We are off to the UK for a couple of weeks in a couple of days- and will pick up this thread when we return. If we are many more than 12- turkey and all the trimmings will really be out of the question. We can seat 40-44- and have 2 ovens, but even so. Will pick the option when we see all the votes and the numbers on our return. So far it looks like fondue chinoise- have a few metal fondue pots, but can borrow as many as necessary from neighbours and friends. Of course if this is the chosen option on our return - those who wish to can bring their own meat and will have a dedicated pot depending on dietary requirement. Will fine tune all this on return."

Re: Neuchâtel area Christmas Dinner

Yes, I'd love to come! So far so good!

As it's a Sunday, I do believe I'll be coming by car, and will have 2 spaces in the car, direction:
La Chaux-de-Fonds - Neuchâtel - Val de Travers - Fleurier.
