The Onion market is a wonderful cultural event held every year in the crisp winter weather.

I'm not an early riser (and I hate being cold) so I'm happy to meet people at Zurich HB, at 8:45am, arriving Bern just before 10:00.

There are plenty of stalls to see, gifts to buy, onion memorabilia as well as wonderful handmade items, food and of course the traditional 'winter warmer' glühwein.

Meeting points:

Zurich HB 8:45am. Station end of platform 17 (make sure you have a ticket organised).

Bern Bahnhof - 10:00 sharp. Meeting point (Treffpunkt) - the official meeting point at the train station.

If you sign up, I will send a PM the day before with my mobile number in case anyone gets lost, runs late, or has last minute change of plans.

Dress warmly for the weather - and wear practical shoes it's an outdoor market, and if there is snow on the ground it will be muddy.

Bring some spending money and your friendly outlook. Be prepared to be sprinkled with confetti and/or hit with large blow-up mallets by the young people...
