City/Town: Engelberg
Event Type: Sports
Meeting Point: bottom of the Gerschnialp cablecar/train

Hi All

I have started a group called "Skiing and Snowboarding in Switzerland". Please see the group page in the "Groups" section of EF for more details about this.

I would like to suggest our first get together at Engelberg on Saturday 14 January. I will be there with a couple of friends. We are all intermediate snowboarders, but are also happy to board with skiers

I suggest we meet at 09:00 at the bottom of the Gerschnialp cable car/train. We can work out a general plan for the rest of the day once we know how many people are coming and what people want to do.

If anyone would like to join us, please post your name and skiing/boarding level (beginner, intermediate or expert) on this thread. I will then PM you my contact details to make sure you can find us if you can not make the meeting time.

Engelberg offers great wintersports opportunities for all types of ability. It also offers great mountain bars and Stueblis for more relaxed activities So please feel free to join us if you would like to.

Hope to hear from some of you soon.

Gully

Re: Skiing /Snowboarding/Relaxing Engelberg

I plan to leave from Cham Alpenblick just before 7.30 if anyone wants a lift from there.

I am right in thinking we are meeting right at the bottom cable car station?

Yes, that's the plan as I understand it. Some folks will be parking at our flat (sorry, no more space for anyone else), which is just opposite, and perhaps some may be renting kit either from Stockli (next door to us) or Titlis Sport at the lift station itself.

As I mentioned before, anyone who want advance info on the state of ticket office queues should PM me with a mobile number, and I'll gladly let you know while you're en-route whether it's worth first going to the Bahnhof to buy your lift passes and avoid the queues. Also we may get some VIP tickets (chf10 each) to avoid the lift queue if necessary.

Oh, and if anyone's coming on Friday evening I'll be with some folk in the Yucatan bar at some point. Again, PM if you want to arrange to meet up for a beer.

Cheers all.

Re: Skiing /Snowboarding/Relaxing Engelberg

Hi All

Agenda for tomorrow:

09:00 - Meet at bottom of Gerschnialp lift (right at the bottom of the mountain in Engelberg). Anyone still needing lift passes can get them then, but I would advise contacting Bruce (Ace1) to see if the queues are getting long. Tickets can be purchased from SBB stations

09:00 - 12:00 Split into groups by ability (or go to lessons if booked) and enjoy a great morning on the slopes

12:00 - 13:00 Meet at the Trübsee restaurant for lunch and drinks

13:00 - 16:00 Enjoy a great afternoon on the slopes

16:00 Meet at Trübsee restaurant again for apré ski or all take the lift down to an apré ski bar in Engelberg

I will be at the bottom of the Gerschnialp lift (hopefully at 8:45) holding a sign that says "English Forum, Skiing and Snowboarding in Switzerland Group". Please look out for this. If you can't make the meeting point, please call my mobile throughout the day to find out where we are: 077 476 80 82. Please send me a text if I do not answer. I will check my phone regularly and call you back asap.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Have fun!

Patrick

Hi All

Agenda for tomorrow:
Just a couple of tiny amendments based on folks having lessons:

09:00 - Meet at bottom of Gerschnialp lift. Anyone still needing lift passes can get them then
Lessons for some are booked for 0930, same meeting place, (but not usually referred to as the Gerschni lift, more often the Titlis lift, or Talstation). So lets expect to be ready to go from around 0915.

09:00 - 12:00 Split into groups by ability (or go to lessons if booked) and enjoy a great morning on the slopes
0930-1230

12:00 - 13:00 Meet at the Trübsee restaurant for lunch and drinks
Best make that a 1300 meet-up, to allow time for those on lessons till 1230 to get up there, as they'll be skiing at Gerschnialp

13:00 - 16:00 Enjoy a great afternoon on the slopes
16:00 Meet at Trübsee restaurant again for apré ski or all take the lift down to an apré ski bar in Engelberg
I'd perhaps suggest meeting up again at the Chalet Bar, right next to the base station, so folks can ski the (great) home run while it's still light rather than just taking the lift down.

We'll be there too, of course, at least one of us in the Prime Red/Blue uniform, but possibly not quite as early as 0845

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
Likewise. Forecast is for a cold but sunny day. Perfect.

Why don't you make another 'event'? Judging by the interest in this one I'd guess that quite a few would be up for a repeat.

Good point Ace1. Have started a thread in Gully's Skiing and Snowboarding Group to gauge interest.

Incidentally, you're just very lucky you get to work and enjoy yourself....

Really really good. For intermediate improvers it may not be the best, but the rank beginners' area at klostermatt, and indeed the not-quit-rank beginner slopes at Gerschnialp, are about as good as they get.
