Olygirl beat me to it. They closed the winter hiking trails here in the Portes du Soleil yesterday between Morgins and Chatel because the snow is well over 200 cm. You need to check before embarking on your winter hike!

Kind of up for this Basher. Probably too much wet snow above 800 meters to hike though. Text me if you're still going or care to trail run instead.

Re: Hiking on RIGI - subject to weather

A great little hike - I can see why Niranjan said it was one of his favourites - I can imagine him . . . . running up and down it.
The weather held out for me and it was so,so quiet . . . perfect.
A few photos are available on my profile album (RIGI).

Thanks for the tip!
Actually I do check before embarking on ANY hike.

Re: Hiking on RIGI - subject to weather

Am planning a hike in Rigi next week. Actually, it will be my first real hike in CH (how embarrassing ). I used to be an active hiker, but ever since moving here last year we haven’t had the opportunity.
Getting kickstarted with hiking is actually my New Year resolution.

I know this is obvious, but there's a bunch of snow above 1000 meters right now and I certainly wouldn't tackle the NE trail on the Rigi at this time of year. Way too many overhangs and avalanche risks. If you more or less take the ski or toboggan slopes up towards the Kulm, you should be good to go.

Re: Hiking on RIGI - subject to weather

Thank you for your concern. I really appreciate it. There's an experienced hiker organizing this. As a newbie to the Swiss Alps I would not dare go alone. We'll go only if it's safe.
