Happy New Year to all!

We start a new year full of culinary adventures with this special restaurant - I have heard good reviews about it, and can't wait to try it. From the website, it looks like they have special lunch menus in addition to the regular dishes.

Mama Africa
Heinrichstrasse 239

P.S. Can you tell I just returned from Africa and I am already "homesick" and already can't wait to go back?

Hope to see many of you there!

Re: A Taste of South Africa - Lunch in Zurich

Thanks to Federica for organising another great lunch

The food was yummy (I had the curry and it had a nice gentle spiciness - perfect for lunch), but I'll need to go back again to try the burger as *someone* wasn't willing to share

(ps. thanks for the chips...)

Re: A Taste of South Africa - Lunch in Zurich

Thanks to all of you who came - I really liked the relaxing ambiance, the food was tasty (although nothing so special to write home about, I was hoping for something a bit more "adventurous" with the flavors), and I found the service to be quiet but effective - present but not obsessively in your face.

The company, of course, superbe. And I mean SUPERBE.

I might go back to dinner sometimes to try different foods

Re: A Taste of South Africa - Lunch in Zurich

another successful yummy event! our 2012 lunches started in sobriety and discipline... ehmm...
service wasn't that bad and the HOT chicken curry (is that african?!) was one of the best I ever had... so JLF, they must have read your critical review on EF and learned from it. you might want to give them another chance :-)

I wouldn't go there for a romantic candlelight dinner though, in case anyone is planning to do so... too big and airy and busy.
but perfect for lunch with friends (now don't be offended Uncle Max, I'm not saying you're not romantic...)

see you next time - go on surprising us, federica!

Re: A Taste of South Africa - Lunch in Zurich

I'll second the comments. Great company, and the food was good, though I was expecting things like Zebra and Antilope on the menu. It's a much larger restaurant than I anticipated, so if anyone needs a place that can accommodate a lot of people, this may be an option

Thanks for organizing Federica!

Hi Federica,

Are you perhaps organising another outing to this restaurant anytime soon? I'm south african/italian and would love to try it out.
thanks

Hey guys (and gals),

Hopefully as you are going for lunch they wont be as busy and the service will be better.

Another thing we could possibly plan for spring/summer is having a proper braai (South African BBQ) down at the lake. I'm sure with all the Saffers on the forum we can knock together some real South African cuisine (koeksisters, melktert, babotie, etc etc) for everybody to try.
Hi there

A braai at the lake sounds good, keep us posted. We moved from Cape Town to Zurich in January '12 would not want to miss this gathering!
