Darn....I will be out of town. Could you please inform via EF your thoughts on Sörenberg?

Hi!
Sorengerg is not a very interesting place for skiiking and the skilifts are slow there. I recommend you Engelberg as a place for skiing that is more beautiful and interesting from slopes point of view. And there are some possibilities to ski off pistes as well! I've been there three times already, it's a paradise compare to Sorenberg.
Cheers,
Natalia

Not massive, true, but some interesting possibilities, especially for progressing intermediate skiers. As I replied to the event post, I'd love to join this group there, but sadly cannot, due to prior commitments.
Of course Engelberg's better for a wider range of more challenging skiing, but so what? Even those of us lucky enough to ski there all season can see the appeal in a bit of variety elsewhere.

Natalia | | | | | For me it's about exploring new places. Perhaps it's not as good as Engelberg where I have already been, but I won't know until I've been and checked it out. As an intermediate I quite like to notch up the miles and see what other resorts have to offer. I realise it's not a huge area - 53km pistes - but it's only a day trip. A lot of people don't ski anything like that distance in a single day.

I think for progressing beginners or intermediates it is a good place. I went there as a relative beginner and had a good day. I was there with a very good (local swiss) skier who also enjoyed their day. So there can be something for everyone.
It was mostly t-bar lifts, which are slow compared to chair lifts or gondolas but get you to the top fine.
I don't think you'd get an adrenaline filled day there but it also doesn't attract that type of skier.
As mentioned in the group thread I can't make it on that Sunday because of work but hopefully another time.
Enjoy your day.

Hi,
Looking at the Rothorn part seems interesting(at least on the map).
What is more annoying is that it might be a bit difficult to get from one lift to another.
But as it was said: after all it's about exploring some new places.
cheers,

adam | | | | | I don't remember it being too difficult getting from one lift to another....but it was a while ago. I think it was just a case of making sure you took the correct turn on the way down to get to the next lift.
I got from one side of the resort to the other without any issues I recall.
(or maybe it helped having a local with me so I didn't have to think too much )
Hopefully you'll have some fun discovering a new place.

Went last weekend to Airolo, another small place (similar SBB package 50% off). Perhaps I would not go paying the full price but was a nice experience.
Therefore I am looking forward for this one too but need first to sort out my schedule.

Weather report for Sunday is looking good - sunny but cold.
I am trying to work out the best place for people to meet. Does anyone know where the Kasse is as it isn't shown on the Piste Map?
Is anyone is renting equipment?
Here is the URL for the ski area: http://www.soerenberg.ch/bahnen/
I'm planning to be on the Zurich - Luzern Train leaving Zurich HB @ 07.04.
Then the Luzern to Schumpfheim train leaving Luzern @ 07.57

OK, lesson learnt, don't write a boot in the comments field when you vote!
So I was saying:
Two questions I'd like to ask:
Will I be the only snowboarder (and a beginner at that)?
Anybody going from the Bern area? I'm new to Switzerland, not sure where I'm going and I only speak French and English so a travelling buddy would be great!
Oh and one last question: will somebody be driving there so I can leave my snowboard bag in their boot maybe?
Thanks again!

I am not sure if any of the others are skiers or snowboarders or the direction they are coming from. I'm skiing and will be coming via Zurich and Luzern.
Do you need your snowboard bag? I just intend to take my skis as they are on the train and keep the amount of stuff I'm travelling with, to a minimum. However, they may be lockers at the main station but I'm afraid I don't know.

Hi Ferkel,
Would have loved to take it but couldn't be @rsed so I'm going to travel as light as possible.
Was out on the pistes all day today so I know I'll be hurting tomorrow but hopefully I'll be 100% for Sunday!
Just need to figure out how this "SnownRail" works though...
What time will you be in Schumpfheim train station on Sunday morning? If I leave Biel at 06:54 I can be in Schumpfheim at 08:28. How is this?
Oh and on the cff.ch website there are 5 different places with the name "Schumpfheim". Which one must I choose?

Try using Sörenberg Platz as the destination. According to SBB I'll be arriving at 8.29 in Schumpfheim and then getting the 8.33 bus to Sörenberg. Getting into Sörenberg Platz at 8.59.
The SBB site says that Snow n Rail tickets can only be purchased at stations or machines. I think you get given a voucher for the lift ticket which you exchange at the lift ticket office.
Sounds like you had a good day today. I was stuck in the office all day :-(

I will also arrive at 08:59 in Sörenberg Platz (same bus as you I assume) if I leave Biel at 06:54 so that's what I'll aim for!
Have you bought your ticket already?

Not got a ticket yet. Hoping to sort it out on Saturday as I'm in the UK at the moment. I've got limited internet access for the next day or so but I'll be back on line when I can. If you manage to get a ticket sorted out, let me know.
I'll post meet up details on Saturday in case we don't meet up on the bus!!

I meant to ring the CFF today but was too busy to do so... Will ring tomorrow and probably pick up a ticket on Saturday.
I'm feeling alright today (knees a bit sore but not as bad as I thought I'd be) so 99% sure I'm going Sunday!
I wonder if it will just be the two of us?
