City/Town: Jura Region
Event Type: Sports
Meeting Point: Métabief

I have been skiing in Métabief, a nice resort, cheap, not crowded, easy parking and not far from home. It's close for all those living in the area of Lausanne, Yverdon or Neuchâtel. You just have to cross the French border in direction to Pontarlier and drive 5 minutes.

The price for 1 day, (from 9am to 17pm) is 20€ (24CHF). If you don't have equipment you can rent it there for 14€ (17CHF).

For those who want to come, I suggest to get together at 9am in front of the InterSport shop (you will easily find it). If you are going to rent equipment I suggest to arrive 20minutes sooner.

I'm going from La Chaux-de-Fonds, so I can pick up anyone in Neuchâtel or Yverdon.

Probably, two very beginners skiers are coming with me, so, if it's your first time skiing, be welcome. If you are more experienced, be welcome too, at some point we will let the beginners on their own

It looks like this next weekend will be much warmer than the last 2 weekends, so, no excuses

  • Odile - Not this time as we have guests over from the UK. Metabief is great btw. But don't tell me you drive over from La C-de-F via Neuchatel and Yverdon!! Have fun :)
  • Kristanez - But we would LOVE to do this on a weekend when we are in town...bad timing on our part, we'll be in the Czech Republic this time. Thanks anyway for organizing.
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

Forgot to say that if you want to eat something there are some cheap bar/restaurants at the bottom. To lunch the cost is around 10€ with a drink.

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding

Odile, answering your RSVP comment. No, normally I go trought La Brévine, then Les Bayards, if the road conditions are too bad due ice and snow I prefer to go trought Morteau and then Pontarlier. This time I don't mind to go by Neuchâtel/Yverdon to pick up someone, is more likely have someone living there than in La Brévine lol.

Even so, those 3 options are very similar, not in distant but in time.

LOL, I know! Living in La Brévine now wouldn't be for the faint hearted. But they've got nowhere to their record in 87, which was -41.8.

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding

That's scary! This year my "personal record" was -19,5º in La Chaux-de-Fonds, don't know about the official one. So painful....

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding

Are you having a ski lesson?
I'm very interested, but it's carnaval on the weekend, so I'm not sure what I'm doing!

It's also possible I could bring my snowboard, but it's been so long, I'm sure I'll have forgotten! Anyway, I'll get back to you! I'm very keen on trying skiing, but don't want to without some guidance! I don't even think I'm covered by my insurance for snow sports .

Is metabief near to les Fourgs?

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding

From Les Fourgs to Métabief it's something like 10 minutes driving.

No, I'm not having a ski lesson, I'm not that beginner. Anyway, I'm going with some very beginners skiers, I don't mind to give some basic tips, but if you are the kind of person that worries about insurance, you probably should get some professional guidance.
By the way, when you are buying the ticket, they ask you if you want to include insurance. I never asked for, so, don't know the price.

You never forget how to ski, it's like riding a bike. I suppose with snowboard is the same. I skied 2 weeks in Spain when I was 10, then stopped for 13 years. When I did it again for the first time after that long stop (January 2012), everything was simple. Just try it again!

Don't worry you'll be fine

Your employment insurance covers you against accident and your personal liability will cover you slaying anyone else on the piste *only kidding, not about the cover about that you'd injure someone*.... besides it won't happen so go have a blast!! If i was closer I'd join you guys!

p.s when they offer insurance at the office that is for Johnny Foreigner or for stupid Swiss residents that really don't have their stuff in order and the cover they really need for day to day stuff...

Re: Skiing/Snowboarding

Hi Metallising!

I'm up for it but I don't have a car so I would need a lift!

I live in Biel and can be in Neuchâtel in either 16 or 31 minutes (depends on the train I get).

If you can give me a lift from the Neuchâtel train station, I'm in! Just tell me what time!

I can be there at 07:35 or 08:23 (based on cff.ch).

FYI: I'm a beginner snowboarder and have my own gear so no need to rent anything!

Anytime you want to have a go Sapin, I'd be glad to help. What shoe size are you? (but can't make next week-end).

That's a pity Sapin...

So anybody else going? Weather forecast looking positive for Saturday! And with all the fresh snow falls it will be a cracker of day!

Thanks for organising this wonderful trip Metallising! Had an absolute blast and it was a perfect day for it! Pity about the crowds though...

Yap, it was a little crowded, much more people than usual. God damn Parisians!
