City/Town: Zürich
Event Type: Other
Meeting Point: Bürkliplatz, outside the Kiosk

The full moon this weekend will be a supermoon - 7% closer to the earth than average, and therefore 15% brighter and larger-looking.

And of course the moon always looks larger on the horizon than it does up in the middle of the sky... so who wants to come and watch the moonrise with me?

According to best in-house estimates, moonrise over Forch will be at 8:44 pm. I figure if we meet at 8:30 that should give us enough time to stake out a good vantage point (end of the quay?) and get ourselves all facing the right direction.

This is all "weather permitting" of course. Current weather forecast for Zürich is here, and I'll update this thread on Saturday.

  • Corbets - that's a unique event, looks like fun! I'll watch it out my window though. ;-)
  • KeinFranzösisch - I have to chain myself in the Keller and turn into a Werewolf.
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

Re: Moonrise - but not just any moonrise

Hmm, weather is still a big fat "maybe". It's supposed to clear off at least a little this afternoon, but then start to rain again later in the evening. Whether that happens before or after moonrise is anyone's guess... reckon we'll have to play it by ear.

I'll be there at 8:30pm anyway (early 30s, female, lighted knitting needles - that ought to be sufficiently distinguishing) and if it does rain, I'll wait a few minutes and then decamp to that little cafe in the middle of Bellevue. Here's hoping it doesn't though!

Beautiful weather at the moment!

I'll be there around 8:30pm (in blue/brown jacket with beige purse). See you then.

Quite grey here in the Far West - don't hold much hope to see that moon. Mind you I can feel it in the posts today!

The rain/hail and thunder storms made the visibility near zero, arriving back in Zurich it seems the weather here was even worse

Re: Moonrise - but not just any moonrise

We spotted the full moon around 22:00 but it didn't look anything special. Yes it was a full moon but can't say it looked that big and yes we were seeing the entire moon
