[Dramatic American voice]

First there was Tourist Day.
Then there was Tourist Day 2.
Now, Tourist Day goes French!

[/voice]

Tourist Simulator Day is a day of childish fun for people who like fun. More specifically, for people who like the same kind of fun that I do.

What is fun?

Fun means going to Strasbourg and pretending to be stupid tourists.
Fun means asking people for directions to things that don't exist or are far far away.
Fun means interacting with the indigenous population for your, their, and my amusement.

What will we do?

I'm going to Strasbourg on Friday and will already be there. Some of my friends will travel from Zurich on the morning and meet me at the train station.
We'll explore the city a bit, and eat and drink and make fun of the French. Along the way I will set simple challenges such as 'get that guy to add you on Facebook' or 'ask that guy where the birthplace of Hercule Poirot is'.

Who is coming
* Me, self-aggrandising writer of this ace blog.
* Cecile, RonOrp's Cafe Correspondent, French hippy author of this blog, and expert on Strasbourg, having been there once
* Some cool people who don't have blogs
* You, if you want

Who should come
* While the day is likely to be chilled and full of interesting discussions about which country has the best cheese, parts will be chaotic and silly. If you're a control freak who likes to have every second of his future planned, this isn't for you! If you're chilled and easy-going, and don't react with disturbing amounts of stress at life's complications, think about coming. If you're the kind of person who gets stressed that restaurants haven't been booked, don't come.
* People who are genuinely new in Switzerland and want to meet some cool ex-pats. This is for you! Jaded, world-weary guys who just want to come to have something to complain about, this isn't for you.
* People for whom the idea of talking to strangers about ludicrous things is outside their comfort zone, but do-able.
* People who, in the words of my hot French friend - "Will do anything you want. [long pause]. No, not that."

Who shouldn't come
* Grumpy people. Complainers. People who expect to be entertained instead of adding value.
* People who hate me (AKA people who have met me already)

Summary

FUN.
RSVP'd Yes: 8 (1 members and 7 guests) RSVP'd Maybe: 3 (2 members and 1 guests)
  • debra - Depends how grumpy I feel on that day
  • abi_bouw + 1 guest - Checking a calendar :) And if I can bring my half person, that'll be great.
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

"Hey, I live in Switzerland dude, I have to work on Friday's "

Tourist Day is Saturday. I only mentioned Friday because I won't be taking the train from Zurich like I did on Tourist Day 2.

To be honest, your list of criterias of whom must not apply is quite extensive and leaves a lot of people out IMO

Re: Tourist Simulator Day #3 - Strasbourg

Sounds like another great day out.

Just a word of warning for those that might stay a bit later for some dinner. Trains back to Switzerland are a bit rare in the evenings. I speak from experience

Are you saying there are more joyless expats than fun ones?
[Urquhart] You may very well think that; I couldn't possibly comment. [/Urquhart]

lolz! What a character!

Although obviously I now realise it's a girl. I'm sure she's adorable! We can use her cuteness to get discounts and stuff. Can she sing Frère Jacques?

You can congratulate random people on the street on winning a Nobel Peace Prize. And take photo with a "Nobel Laureate"

Re: Tourist Simulator Day #3 - Strasbourg

Two questions:

1) Roughly how old are you, and the group that is going?

2) Will there be drinking?

1) The ages of the people I'm sure are going range from 27ish to 37ish. (One guy is a Kiwi if that helps.) Age is not a limiting factor though. I think last time the age range was more like 22-50.

2) It's not an elaborate pub crawl but yes. Yes, there will. At least four of us are staying in Strasbourg on Saturday night, too, so we'll hit a bar or two in the evening.
