Book Clubs

Are any of you in book clubs? Anyone interested in setting one up?

Re: Book Clubs

Hi Roxane,
I was thinking about starting up some sort of social club - in the disguise of a book club! My idea (ok so not that original) was to meet up every so often, once every 2 weeks, or once a month, take it in turns to host - as host you would provide some snacks, and everyone else would bring something to drink and a a few books of their choice which we "discuss" and/or recommend whilst getting to know each other and hopefully making a few new friends. Wouldn't matter what sort of books you like - if everyone brings something there should be enough choice. Anyone interested or anyone have any other ideas? Would love to hear.

Re: Book Clubs

hi rsammy

that's exactly the sort of thing i'd be interested in. thanks! i used to be in a social..oops...book club like that and it worked well. we actually discovered some great reading stuff along the way.

i can certainly take my turn in hosting.

want to do some recruiting on the forum or shall we start with a merry party of two? if the latter, just PM me.

Re: Book Clubs

You could start by creating your first meeting as a social event on EF. It will appear then in the calendar and people can subscribe to reminders etc..

Re: Book Clubs

That is great news - nothing is set up as yet but I will organize something in the calendar and let you all know. How do people feel about hosting a meeting in your home? I am happy to do this, Roxane is as well - would everyone be happy enough about this or prefer to meet somewhere "public" - like a coffee shop or something? Any ideas very welcome!
Any preference for days of the week? I am free any day apart from Fridays ...

Re: Book Clubs

Hi - I'm interested too, can I join? I'm in Basel as well. Doesn't make a difference to me whether ít's in a public location or in private homes. If the gathering is hosted in individuals' homes, I'd be happy to take a turn hosting also.

Thanks, Roxane, for starting this thread - I've been hoping to join a book / social club, but just haven't found one yet. I guess the answer is to start one!

Fun!
A public place or take turns in hosting - either or works fine with me!

Re: Book Clubs

Just to let all of you interested know that the book club is about to be launched. We're still checking out on a venue for a kick-off but hopefully within a day or two we can post it as a social event. Monday 4th February in Basel- so pencil it in meanwhile. Hope to see you all then.

Re: Book Clubs

Oh I wanna join - but I have a company thing that I can't get out of (already tried like 10000 times) but I'm kind of commanded there and I'm not sure of when the dinner is finishing up.

But I definitely want to take part and hope that is possible even if I can't join on Monday!!!
