'Welcome to Basel'/'Welcome on Board'

Hi,
New to Basel and pleasantly surprised to receive an invitation to a 'Welcome to Basel/Welcome on Board' orientation/tour evening on the 26th Feb.

Have any Basel-Newbies also been invited/intending to attend?
Any non-newbies been before, was it useful/fun?

Just confirmed my attendance, the boat trip sounds especially exciting!

Hope to see some of you there too!

Boat trip ?!?

I was invited to two "welcome" events. One was in the town hall (with govt representatives, a sales pitch by centrepoint, and a jazz band) and one in the GGG building not far from barfusserplatz (a humorous talk, from a Swiss guy, about how to deal with the Swiss).

They weer both good. But neither involved a boat. I want!

My husband and I were invited and intend to go.

He assumes that it'll be a waste of time (at least the town hall meeting) but I'm going to drag him along anyway

The aperitif is good. I attempted to eat and drink enough to cover the cost of my B permit.

I'd be really impressed if you actually wore them

I'll be the tall "blondish" woman with the shorter guy (he'll probably be scowling at the waste of time

I'm torn between the water-wings and a full Pirate costume...

Either way I'll be the one searching the buffet table for mini sausage rolls!

I was invited but sadly couldn't make it (business travel). The funny thing was that they sent a pack explaining to me my rights as a woman in Switzerland - my husband isn't allowed to beat me or imprison me in my house... It was nice of them but not really applicable to my situation!

Hi i received also the invitation on 26th of feb. and it's firstime to attend on this event. I will be attending and hope to meet u all there in the Markplatz Townhall on 26th.

I'd go as well if I thought I could sneak in.

I can't remember how it was when I actually did go three years ago; did they take my invite or check my name on a list? Not sure.

Hi Pavanne, it was really nice of them to clarify re those two points especially! they certainly take care of us newbies!

Should be well worth it for the boat ride alone (the aperitifs are a welcome bonus). May be worth just turning up, I don't have an invite as such, just confirmed my attendance online.

I'm sure a few people will drop out, especially if the weather continues to be bad, they may welcome a few walk-ins to swell the numbers!

Oh, really? They didn't let me know that. I wondered why all the women I have locked up in my cellar kept complaining.

They sent me my rights as a women in Basel written in German, which unfortunately, I could not read. I'll be sure to let my husband know that he cannot imprison me
