I seem to recall a beer-fueled conversation at last week's wrestling bonanza about what a truly brilliant idea it would be for us to arrange a karaoke night in Lausanne. Now (Tuesday morning) I'm not so convinced that this is necessarily as great an idea as I thought it was at the time.

However, I say let's give it a go anyway. It's been a long time since I got up on stage in front of a complete group of strangers and made a complete arse of myself (although I did end up in a limbo contest at the Zurich EF Christmas party, which is close).

I know there's a place near St. Francois that advertises karaoke, although I don't know the name of it. Does anyone know of anywhere we could go to display our singing prowess to the world (or at least Lausanne?)

Yea, there is a pizza parlor up near St. Francois that was advertising Karaoke. I was going to go there one night, but got too drunk to make it. Still, its a brilliant plan, and I'm sure that many people (once they have a drink or two that is) would be up for it. Hope you get something like that going.

It looks like Café des Artists has Karaoke. It's right at the end of Gallerie St. François near the entrance to the park with the big frog. I'll call them and ask which nights.

I just called the café. They have Karaoke every night from Tuesday to Sunday.

Yep, just found out the same. Karaoke starts between 9-10p. I guess there's another place nearby called le Cyrano, but I don't have any more details. Wait, that's what Mark's link says too... ah, the internet.

I can't sing for toffee, but that's what karaoke is all about, isn't it? I finally move to Lausanne next Friday (29th) and would be up for a bit of wailin... singing after that if you arrange a re-match?

I'm thinking I'll go there one evening to collect a song list.

Can you warn me if they have Barenaked Ladies 'One Week'? I had a long-standing bet with my last girlfriend that I would only ever sing at a karaoke if they had that song. I lost once already, I would appreciate advance notice next time

When I stopped in I saw that they had a karaoke "book" - a fairly thick binder akin to most of what I've seen at American karaoke venues. It may be a bit to transcribe, but some sense of what lies therein would be great.

It's not *really* karaoke if you're all prepared. I'm pretty sure the look/sound-like-a-fool to practice ratio is inversely proportionate...
And to robban - I'm an admitted addict. Even if a group takes the plunge this week, I'll be more than happy to join you the following.

I'm from the San Francisco school of Karaoke, which demands preparation and if at all possible costumes.

I was there last week on business. We went to an Irish bar called Tiernans right by Pier 43 which had karaoke - have you ever been there? I'm pleased to say I didn't inflict my singing on the SF-ers present, though there were several other Englanders willing to inflict pain

Fisherman's Wharf is usually reserved for visitors... I've only been there a couple of times for example when completing a bike trip to Tiburon and back over by ferry. I do hope you had fun though.

There is one place in the area which is awsome, an Indian restaurant and Irish pub. I can't recall the name, but we used to go down to fisherman's wharf all the time just to go there.

Hi i would really like to join, but I would need somebody to meet me at the train station and walk me back cuz I dont know lausanne that well and need to catch the last train to Montreux then)

I'm sure this could be arranged. I don't know the train timetables, but the venue isn't too far from the station.

I honed my karaoke skills at the prestigious Southwestern Ontario University Town Seedy Country and Western Bar School of Karaoke and Interpretive Dance. Loud shirts were optional but preferable. Sadly, I think the great Canadian culinary specialty and staple karaoke dish poutine will not be available for consumption here in Lausanne. For shame.
