Zurich - road cycling event, 28th October

Me, Yokine, and Litespeed are once again heading out on the roads of Switzerland for a cycle (Tour de France style). Sorry for the late notice, but this late in the year, we are somewhat dependent on the weather.

So, for anyone interested from Zurich, we are meeting at the HB @ 8.25am and then catching a train to St.Gallen and the appenzeller region to as Litespeed says 'zig-zag around the St. Anton - Trogen area'.

If you are coming from other areas, just post to this thread and we will work out something.

Can't make it tomorrow, but you guys should totally plan to head this way for the Cyclotour du Leman in May 2007 (the 27th, to be exact). It's a 180 km lap of Lake Geneva through three Swiss Cantons and the Haute-Savoie region. It's super flat and super fast, and you get to bomb through all the traffic congestion in downtown Geneva on a Sunday afternoon at 30+ km/h ignoring every red light you come across. SUCH an adrenaline rush. (Totally unsafe, by the way, but that's beside the point.) Plus, you get feed stations along the route, a jersey, and food afterwards. I did it last year with my husband and had a blast.

I'll make another posting about the Tour in a few months once the registration opens, but thought I'd give you the heads up.

Happy riding tomorrow.

Heather

Sounds great, but I just can't handle flats. Don't ask me why, I just can't. I can't spin a high cadence for any length of time either. Give me the mountains any day. Thats why I like the Metzgete, its also about as close as amateur and hobby racers get to the real thing without visiting a spanish doctor.

But the crap thing about that race is the season is already too cold.

If you're such a climbing masochist you should think about popping down south of the border for next year's Maratona in the Dolomites. The three courses are:

55 km/1780m elevation gain
106 km/3090 " "
138 km/4190 " "

You can apply for the draw online, and it's in July, so you don't need to worry about the cold.

Also, you should check out the Lake Geneva region for a ride sometime. We've got a fair few 1500+m mountain passes within riding distance of Lausanne, and the Haute Savoie region is a 25-min boat ride across the Lake.
