Basel Dads

Dear All,

I'm wondering if there are any other expat Basel Dads out there who would like to unite over a beer/other activities sometime?

I for one would certainly like that

Cheers

Re: Basel Dads

I may be missing something, but I can't for the life of me work out why there's a desire specifically to meet up with other fathers. Is there some sort of secret knowledge, from which non-parents are excluded, that you want to talk about with them?

Genuinely puzzled by this.

Simply put they want to reminisce about their man toys and commiserate about the fact they can no longer afford, or are allowed, to buy them.

Re: Basel Dads

There is a Liestal (Baselland) monthly dad's meet if you can stretch that far (10 mins train from Basel SBB).
@OP PM me your address and I'll ask for you to be added to their mailing list. It's a very informal gathering in a local watering hole with a friendly bunch of guys (mainly anglophone but a few Swissies)

To Slap and Ace...... its a dad thing

Is that the group that meets at the Fish Inn every wednesday?

A few years back I was going to join in but a few friends who went in the past said that the core group of fathers are just a bunch of piss heads and odd balls. Anyway perhaps it has changed now?

I tend to look at fatherhood in the opposite way. Allthough all that patience and tolerance required can sometimes be a killer. At the end of the day though it is very character building. Any way horses for courses as they say.

Dunno, I'm not a member But if true, as the Fish Inn has closed, they'll need to find another venue for their odd-ball drinking.

Because we want to talk about our kids, which bores people without kids to tears. And commiserate about the last time we had a decent night of sleep, or share the pain of stepping on a Lego, or bitch about how our kids seem to slobber more than a dog.

Both my kids had explosive diarrhea this evening, the kind that shoots all the way up their back and sticks in their hair. How long would you like to make this a topic of conversation? In the Dads' group, this is good for about half-an-hour of conversation. And maybe a photo or two...

A friend of mine posted pictures of his son, suffering from acute conjunctivitis and a bad cold. One eye was covered in thick pus and sealed shut. The little nipper's face was covered in dried snot. Sure you want to have a few beers with a group for whom this is the common ground?!?

Clearly, the answer to your question is yes.

See... Exactly the kind of secret knowledge us non-parents are excluded from knowing.... What is known can not be unknown...

Count your blessings.... You know how people who have served in combat never talk about "the war"?

Yeah, that.

I've had to recalibrate what qualifies as 'disgusting'. By orders of magnitude.

Re: Basel Dads

Has this gone anywhere? We're hoping to move to Basel soon and a group of dads would be welcome. We've got a strong group of school dads here (UK) that I'm going to miss.

It is terrible to exclude men without kids, but I'm sure your copious free-time, disposable cash and well rested bodies will be some small comfort.

Re: Basel Dads

check the Hausmänner FB group as posted above, they have regular meetings and activities. There's also a FB Basel Mummy meet up group, mostly for parents with younger kids for playdates etc, which does not kick dads out either.
