will be in Lausanne next week for a few days looking about work and finding apartment. Would appreciate it if anybody could suggest a good place to meet up with ex-pats so i could ask a few questions etc and find out some info

Come along to THE place to meet ex-pats (and have a beer at the same time!). We meet every other Thursday in Taco's bar, the next meeting is this Thursday May 8th.

Info is in the events section here and I will PM you with my number in case you need help getting there.

You shouldn't get the wrong impression - Taco's is not a place where expats generally hang out, it is just the place where folks meet up every second Thursday via the announcements on EnglishForum. Unfortunately, there will be no such event next week when you're here (next one is this Thursday, May 8th). For a place where you might just randomly bump into expats, I might try the White Horse pub down in Ouchy - there are often several in there it seems, but no guarantees.

I noticed that you say you're in town on Monday 12 May. This is a public holiday in Lausanne (lundi de pentecôte) so unfortunately just about everything will be closed, ie shops / rental agencies etc..

With regard to ex-pat haunts, try the Captain Cook pub or Emplacement 17 which is just around the corner, alternatively, if the weather is good (which I hope it will be!), head down to the lake to the area around Vidy where there are lots of open spaces where groups of people have barbecues/play football/throw frisbees etc. It shouldn't take you long to hear some English being spoken..

Hi! Yeah - there's a bbq being organised on the 12th. Just look it up on the calendar here and sign up! Otherwise - see you tonight at the Taco's!

Oh and by the way, Emplacement 17 is pretty full of expats. Even the Co-owner is one and a cool guy. Otherwise the http://www.the-great.ch is also supposed to be good. I've never been though! Let me know if it's any good! Good Luck!

Monday the 12th is a holiday in Switzerland, not sure if you were aware of that. Most places may be closed. The usual bars where you might bump into some expats are The Great Escape and Emplacement 17. Captain Cooks and the Darling bar (new) may also be ok. If the weather's good, head down to Ouchy by the lake. Follow the smell of BBQs to Vidy, a large park where most people will be.

I work in Lausanne and live in Morges which is about 10mins outside. I will be in Basle on Monday so won't be able to meet you. If you're considering coming to live and work in Lausanne then let me know. Maybe able to meet up for a beer another time.
