Hi Everyone

After a somewhat long break, it is time I organised drinks again !! Come join us for a beer, cocktail, soft drink, water, orange juice (or whatever your poison is) and meet some of the wonderful folk from the English Forum World.

Note: if you are new to this gathering, you might want to PM me for my mobile number - as some people didn't find us last time although we should be wearing small "english forum" stickers for easy identification.

I attended the one a couple wed. ago and had a nice time, so I'll def. hit this one up again.

last time, it was a bit difficult to find people as it was my first time so I had no faces to search for AND it was a kareoke night there so it was quite packed! I'm in 2 of the photos from the Nov 16 meeting though...helps to have a face to be looking for.

Despite there being some riff raff aka the 'Northerners' being at the last do, I will be there. Always had a good time at these mid-week events.

I'll head wherever the group wants to. Had no issues with Acalpulco, other than screaming over the karoke, but maybe that isn't a reg. wed thing???

There are a few places on/off Langstrasse. I walk by one everyday called the Mata Hari?? never been, not sure if anyone else has checked it out.

I recommend you avoid the places with picture of girls on the outside

Matahari is a nice bar, I like the atmosphere and the music...but it can get really busy and noisy on the weekends..

I agree. Acapulco is okay, but some variety - and less cheesy karaoke ballads - would be nice. I liked the Blue Cherry bar that we went to a few months back...

changing bars is a long debated issue, especially by those of us who actually organise (and not criticise) events :> Don't worry, I am used to the constructive criticism, as I have been organising such drinks nights for over 3 years.

The problem is that many factors have to be taken into account, including

• Location (has to be central - according to previous constructive criticism)
• Has to have room for us to sit & stand (Blue Cherry was ok, but had room for seating only, thus you get stuck in a corner)
• Has to have relatively cheap drinks (we have to be aware that not everyone works for UBS)
• Have to be able to talk (with the exception of last time, Acapulco is normally not toooooo noisy)
• Should not normally be jam packed so you can see people

So for the those of you out there who want to change bars, I challenge you to come up with some alternatives that satisfy most/all of these criteria. In fact if you look at Diem's previous Friday night bar crawls, that was what he was trying to achieve (and to my knowledge found no solution). The other alternative is to ignore peoples previous complaints, in which case I can take you all to about 30 other bars I know of.

I must admit, I was happily surprised with the cost of the beer at Acalpulco.
I think I was paying 6.40 for ein grosses bier? (I had a few so I could be wrong..I did the process of elimination game with my money when I got home!)

that to me was one of the cheaper places I've found. and not working, it suited me JUST fine!

Yes, these are all understandable points, and honestly, I'm quite happy that someone has taken the time to seriously consider them! However, for social gatherings, I think change is important and would probably do us good every once in a while - even if it's not optimal in every category.

Yes, if you don't take the initiative to get up and move around. :P

I shall come up with something reasonably suitable in Jan. I can't do anything earlier as I am outta town most of Dec.

You know there is a little bar behind the sausage stand in bellevue called Rosalee i think. I was there last weekend and its got a small sitdown/restaurant area and a bar with some good tunes playing. only 6 francs for a proper pint of swiss beer. cheapest i've found yet!

I still vote for Acapulco (as long as there is no karaoke). Its small, intimate, people are able to chat.

Yes, I think it should be. One rule of event planning is not to change the venue after announcing the event!

of course the event is still as planned - Acapulco 8pm Weds

Next time I organise I willl go to another bar - to appease the masses

Although there will be no karaoke and no chance to be filmed and shown on Superstar this time.
