| | | [Bern] Anyone up for a bike ride to Wohlensee?
Hello,
After our last Bern Livers & Lovers meeting, there were several people that expressed interest in cycling around the Bern area, therefore, wee are planning to organize a trip to lake Wohlen (Wohlensee).
We can get together after work or during the weekend. Interested people please reply and post your availability and/or preferred dates. I, for one, am fully booked on Tuesdays and Thursdays to try to learn some German. Any other day is fine for me.
Any takers?
Cheers,
Carlos |

It sounds fun! But how far it is, roughly? I am in peak physical condition, of course, but for some reason my bike can only go up hills very slowly. (I think it's because I bought it in Denmark, tallest mountain 147m).

Hello, nice to see you drop by :-)
According to Google Maps, it's 11.6 km from the city center. The way there should be slightly downhill given that the river flows in that direction, I guess, but you can ask Starbug for more details.
Don't worry about being slow, I wen to Thun last Friday and I am about the slowest cyclist on the road. Bern surroundings are mostly flat as far as I can tell...
Cheers,
Carlos

Carlos | | | | | its a very nice run alongside the Aare, with the added benefit of running a tunnel around Worblaufen for 250m cutting a huge bend in the river.
am away next week, but would be game for an evenings perambulation the week after.
Great idea Carlos.
ahem, Boris& myself will be supping beer on the terrace at the Tram Depot tomorrow evening, if anyone cares to rumble along.

Possibly interested in a ride, although don't have a bike (yet)
oh Hi by the way, I was at the blues bar that liver night (late late 10.30pm onwards), and had lost my backpack there last wednesday. I found this forum accidentally while searching for blues bar bern's telephone number.
Never found the number incidentally. And the bar was closed on thursday/friday/saturday/sunday afterwards too :/
Anyway, what time might some of you guys be at the tram depot ?

Carlos | | | | | Hi Carlos,
good on you for taking the initiative, right now my bike is being better used by Nyx, not 100% sure what she has planned for these next coming days (if she gets her job then she will be pretty tied up I guess), but will pass on the message ( as she is the one who would totally love to go out for a good bike ride), then she can get in contact with you if she is up for it....
Wish you a nice day for your outing guys.
Ros
P.S. Polorise and Boris, have one for me to please, no way to get in to join you, I seem to have allowed myself to be roped into the end of the school year stuff and will be making many "Sonne Brötlis" (direct translation would be Sun buns) to aid their project week, Oy vey!
All to the good tho, have a nice one and catch you all at a later date yeah?

Hello everybody,
I went to Wohlensee yesterday just to dissipate doubts regarding the route, and I can confirm that it is mostly downhill indeed, so it shall not be very tiresome.
I suggest interested parties meet next Saturday the 17th at 11:00 AM in front of the wavy looking forms of the railway station (Schanzenstrasse) http://maps.live.com/default.aspx?v=...____&encType=1
Bring something to eat and water in abundance, and don't forget the sun protection lotion too
For some strange reason, I don't have enough permissions to add this event to the calendar yet, can some of the regulars here do it for me? Thank you...
Cheers,
Carlos

Darn, forget it. I just saw that starting on Wednesday we have crappy weather for seven days in a row http://www.weather.com/outlook/trave...opnav_business |

Hello David,
So you found the forum... Welcome!
I hope the weather improves too... Anyhow, I am available to play badminton too, I used to play that as a kid, I would probably need some time to get the hang of it again.
In the Livers & Lovers there was someone actively collecting phone numbers to play beach volleyball. Unfortunately I don't recall right now who it was, and I don't have the list either Something we may want to keep in mind too for the future, there are outdoor soccer and volleyball facilities south of the Tierpark crossing the river.
Cheers,
Carlos
