Anyone for winter hiking?

Just wondering if there's any interest ...

I enjoy nature and walking, and since Switzerland offers plenty of opportunities to experience both, I was wondering if there are any like minded individuals out there who'd be interested in going on a Saturday or Sunday for a snowshoe hike somewhere, or walking along a nice paved winter walking path?

To clarify: This isn't a dating announcement! I'm already taken

I've just joined another forum dedicated to hiking, and discovered I mostly enjoy my hikes when I get to chat with english speaking people.
So i wondered if anyone here would be interested in such a thing.

That, and this category doesn't seem to provoke any interest!
Are you guys all beer drinking, fine food eating couch potatos??!

Re: Anyone for winter hiking?

Great! that makes 2 of us!
For an easy start, I was thinking ... I've done the Uetliberg to Felsenegg or Felsenegg to Uetliberg before ...
But what happens after Felsenegg ? I imagine there's a path that continues to .... ? we could walk all the way around the Zürisee!

Will you be wearing your Alien costume as a recognition aid ?? (or is that not a costume ??? )

Re: Anyone for winter hiking?

Fantastic! I promise it's not secretly a date that you don't know about - and this time I mean it :-)

Anyway, I hope some others join us.

I've also never been beyond Felsenegg. I sometimes start there and walk "up" to the top. Other times, I start at Triemli and walk up the very steep route through the forest. Perhaps that's more of a summer route though.

How about Saturday 25 or Sun 26?

Re: Anyone for winter hiking?

Saturday the 4th sounds ok

Do you have any idea about the area? How long it takes, where the best place is to start etc?

We'll see if we can find any other interesting/interested people.

Actually I set the calendar for no moderation - and I can't find your event - did you delete it after you posted it?

Re: Anyone for winter hiking?

Hi Mark,

Nope, I didn't delete it. I'll try to add it to the Calendar again. Anyway, here's a copy of the text:

Hike on Saturday, 4 March

Hi there,

Fancy some gentle exercise and fresh air this Saturday? Why not join take part in an easy hike along Uetliberg?

The plan is to start at Felsenegg at 11.00 on Saturday, March 4 and then walk up to the top of Uetliberg, where we’ll tuck into a Fondue. Even going slowly, we’ll be there in less than two hours.

Getting there:
You can take train S4 to Adlisvil and then the cable car up to Felsenegg. Or walk up. Whatever. Just be there by 11.00.

Getting away:
After lunch, you can take the train S10 from Uetliberg back to Zürich. In case you feel guilty after the Fondue, you can also walk down.

Contact:
Please mail me to let me know if you’ll be joining.

Super Fit/Crazy Fool version:
Want to lose a kilo this weekend? Let me know if you’d like an 8.30am start at Triemli. It’ll be a dash to get to Felsenegg to meet the others by 11.00. Last time I did it I was a kilo lighter the next day.

Re: Anyone for winter hiking?

OK, this time it worked and I received no message about "waiting for moderator approval".

Of course, you can delete the second entry called simply "test".

Cheers,

Re: Anyone for winter hiking?

Well it looks like you guys did your hike before things got REALLY bad. I had it in my mind that your hike was today. I woke up and looked at the masses of snow everywhere and thought "That hike will be interesting!" So I wanted to come in here and gloat, but then I saw that your hike was Saturday and not Sunday

Re: Anyone for winter hiking?

The hike was fun. There was tons of snow and sometimes you could hardly see to walk. Anyway, we made it and failed to get lost. Hurrah!

Destiny and I started at 0830 and made it to Uetliberg Station by 0950. That was already longer than expected and it left us with one hour to get to Felsenegg to meet the others. According to the signs, that's a one hour forty trip in decent weather.

We managed to make it by 11.15 and met the other eight members of the group. Then we came back to Uetliberg for a Fondue. Yum.

I'm just uploading some pictures to my web site. Hopefully more people will be encouraged to join the next hike. Conditions can only be better.
