Re: Basel Book Club

Hi There Roxane

I have a question. Do you guys ever read any non-fiction books? I read 4 to 7 books a week but they are 100% non-fiction and very interesting to me. Have you guys ever thought about doing somthing like this?

Even history books would be fun. Do you guys only read fiction?

Thanks

Re: Basel Book Club

There is no fixed definition of what we read; stop by and bring a book you recommend and perhaps it will be selected for a future book club evening.

Hi Zuger
It's like Axelino says: drop by with your suggestions. Each time someone else suggests a favourite and so we're exploring the wildest outposts of the written word here :-) This certainly includes non-fiction.

Hope to see you sometime

Roxane

Re: Basel Book Club

Thanks Pixiekitten for the correction regarding the author of Time Traveller's Wife. One of the book club regulars has run off with my copy so I was (erroneously) excavating the name from memory.

Re: Basel Book Club

I noticed the post too late!
The Shadow of the Wind
by Carlos Ruiz Zafon was really a good book.

Next time you'll meet discussing about a book I've read, I'll try to be there too.

Ciao

Hi Hulk

yes, we all really enjoyed The Shadow of the Wind too.

Next time it's the Time Traveller's Wife and the time after that a wonderful book by one of your countrymen - Silk. If you like either of those, do join us

Re: Basel Book Club

Just found out that I'm scheduled to participate in a very loooong meeting that day/evening - where I'm supposed to do some talking as well, which means that I actually has to be there....

I loved the book, and am really sorry to not participate to hear what the rest of you thought!!!

Re: Basel Book Club

hi guys

i've been wondering the past few days whether i could make it on monday (work, garden that has morphed into a jungle, pre-holiday madness, endess paperwork related to house)....and then i see that both axelino and rsammy are also not sure they'll make it - so it might be a good idea to postpone until there are more of us to chat ? whaddya think? if none of you come up with a hugely convincing reason to still meet up on Monday, then I'll cancel and put up a new day end of July :-)

Re: Basel Book Club

Roxane, changing the date is fine by me, gives me more time to finish the book. How about delaying it by two weeks?

Re: Basel Book Club

Hi!

Yes - I'm up for postponing - since I can't make it tomorrow anyway...
But I'm not in CH week 31/32 either...but if that works better for everyone else, I guess I miss it then too!

If postponing - should we then take both the time traveller and the silk books at the same time?

/pia

Re: Basel Book Club

Fantastic, am in post-holiday catch-up/blues, so wouldn't mind postponing until 21st July!

Didn't get to read the Shadow of the Wind, but would still like to. Any one willing to lend me their English copy at our next meeting?

Thanks!
