We will stick the Zurich Oberlander this week
Meeting Point: Zolikerberg, just across the Forchbahn lines, heading towards Binz. There is a carpark on the right hand side of the street that we can meet in and start from. Map
Meeting Time: 18:45

Have you decided about the route for thursday to avoid the Euro08 frenzy ?
How about a nice ride along the sihl to Hirzel?

If we are going to do that, then throw in a loop over the Albis chain somewhere towards Turlersee and then back over again to Zurich.
Needs to have some climbing in there.

Does everyone agree to Salsa's side of the Lake?`
Suggestion for meeting points?
Addition of climbs on the route? any suggestions? we don't want a flat time trial ride- i need climbs so I can fall behind otherwise it won't seem usual. |

Oh...
No narrow roads with loads of home time traffic on them. I don't want to witness another accident or be the brunt of impatient drivers this week.

Agh, yes, funny thing is i take that road about 30 times or more and it is usually pretty empty, it is usally better after 7, from 6 to 7 it is busy. Thus, I agree we need to get out of the city on a non-busy road. Any suggestions?

Salsa have you ridden this route?
Bear in mind that a quite road for one cyclist may not be a quiet road for a group of cyclists.

I don't know how it is at 7pm. It is very calm on weekends.
I think this road is taken by many pendulars to Zug and Luzern, so it could be busy at that time.
I'm by train today so when I am going back home I'll try to get on the S4 that goes paralel to that road to see how is the traffic at around 7pm.

I don't know this area so well but I think I have taken some of the roads coming back from Sattellegg. But looking at the map, how is the road up Albisstrasse, is that busy, is it a hill?

check out the google maps link
Now click on the button "Terrain" on the top-right corner of the map. You'll get an elevation map, so you could see the profile of the roads.
According to the map, the mountains this side are higher than the ones at the Forchstrasse. there are many different climbs that could be done over the zimmerberg, up and behind the Albis mountains.

If so that will be a nightmare to ride on! It doesn't look like that on the map, but I think that's the road that the trains go along. | Quote: | | | | | I don't know this area so well but I think I have taken some of the roads coming back from Sattellegg. I don't know the roads on that side of the lake, but if we are a group I think we should at least ride some roads that someone knows will be bike friendly.
If no one can provide that information then I suggest we stay on this side of the lake and do a loop roughly similar to what we did last week, but taking a slightly different route out of the city.
Afterall, last weeks 60km and 800m climbing wasn't a bad evenings riding. And we could always do a bigger loop if we wanted some variation.

That is the road out Sihltal which will be crawling with Traffic when we intend to ride it, and it is flat until we get to Sihlbrugg if we follow the route.
Also the terrain map does not give you contours (unless I am missing something), so you can't tell if the roads actually go higher then the other side or not!

So this route would probably be busy? This is similar to one posted by Yokine before.
