Need to true the back wheel, and probably just a general check up before my ride in France....I don't trust my bike mechanical abilities alone.

Other then the back wheel, which I wouldn't do myself its well worth your while learning the other stuff... It definitely helps if you break down when your on a day ride.

I've got a trueing stand (Kreis 4) if you want to bring your bike around. Guess it's straightforward unless you have some fancy wheelset nipples or a low spoke count.
Actually I also have a near new yellow Michelin Pro tyre if you want that.

thanks, totally agree, I have been slowly trying to learn, but I am not one just to tear apart the bike and put it back together to learn, afraid it would end up in pieces never to be re-assembled.

Giiven the structure of modern road rims I'd bet on the spoke tension. Let me know what type of brand/model wheel it is, in case it needs more than a standard tool to fix.
Can do early this week, but we'll take that to PM's |

Thanks for keeping this momentum going, Dakman!
Eire, you're so sick you're stuck in bed? Hope you feel better soon.
I could possibly try to put together another route on this side if you all would like...? |

I am open to any suggestions on the route...

Its not that bad, certainly not a bent rim, just needs a bit of truing of the 10 minute variety I'd say. I'm sure that dakman can give you the brand & model info, but it looked like reasonably standard stuff to me.

Sorry I couldnt make it last week.
Thieves broke in my building and entered 4 appartments to steal jewels and cash.
They took my only 3 pieces of jewelery with them. It is a real pitty, because they were not worth that much money but were my father's ring and my mother's pendant.
I can do me replicas but they will never replace the originals.
It would have been better if they stole other things, like the PC or the plasma TV or other things. As those would be easier to recover from the insurance.
The insurance company says that my jewels are covered only up to the 20% of their value and as I don't have receipts from them I have to give them a list with pictures and get an expertise about the value from a jeweler.
So I ll have to look for a good and expensive jeweler in zurich to get a quote.
When I arrived home to get ready for the ride, the police was there asking questions and taking samples of the broken locks etc etc. so I couldnt prepare me for the ride on time.
And next thursday I have planned to fly to Prague but I am not feeling like I d like to travel again.
Maybe I change my mind and stay in Zurich in that case I ll come with you.

Maybe we should do the ride on the other (east) side of the lake this week, to vary the side each week. (I realize the first few weeks were all that side, so we're due some time on this west side - well, either way is fine with me) That would give me some more time to come up with another route, or at least for you all to hopefully forget some of the roads we did last week in case I use them again!
Also, since Dakman won't be able to participate next week, I could plan to lead it on this (west) side again next week. Either way, I'll be doing my "route research" over here (tough job but somebody's gotta do it)...

I don't think we necessarily need to ride a different route every week. I have no problem riding a similar or the same route, or just deciding to turn left instead of right here to there on another week.
Its essentially what we have done on this (east/north) * side of the lake for the first few rides.
*I used to live near Feldbach so always think of the lake as running east/west. |

That's good. Sometimes it's nice to repeat a route anyway so we all know where to save energy for upcoming hills, etc...
I'll need to find a shortcut or two eventually for the route we did last week, since the daylight is getting shorter again... and to allow enough time for the post-ride beverages |

Same route works for me. Although I have the map, I'd like to get it into my visual memory. And it is a great ride |

Same route or thereabouts is fine, too bad we can't go up that great road which goes above Raten pass like Saturday
Anyway, I will have to pass the mantle, after this week, to someone else to organize for a few Thursdays (actually think I will miss the next 3 after this week). After the Etape, I plan on cycling Ventoux and Alpe Huez to make up for missing my Thursday rides.
I don't think I could give the keys to the kingdome to a non-roadie to look after. hmmm |
