| | | Digital Photo Group in Zurich
There is a once a month meeting at the James Joyce [ www.jamesjoyce.ch] for any and all people interested in sharing photos or meeting others with a similar interest in digital photography.
You can check out the group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DigiFotoCH/ or just come by any second Tuesday of the month. [It is a good idea to check the group postings first as they may change the meeting date when necessary.]
Hope to see you there!

Thanks for posting that - I'll try and make it to the next one. A yahoo group? Arrggg no thanks, it would be nice if I could just check on the day by looking into your message archive, rather than subscribing to the entire mailing list. That is after all why I started this forum in the first place
You can also use the calendar function to advertise each meeting - as the date approaches it will be displayed on the front page for all to see.

Otherwise I would not bother as I get enough email as it is....
I use a yahoo account and change my settings right away to only read online.
Still a fabulously hinderful interface mind you |

If you have a yahoo account just be thankful that your aren't a Chinese journalist. I'll still steer clear on ethical grounds thanks... |

Well, I a bit too far to get to the meeting, but I am in the market for an entry-level DSLR. Budget is around 1200chf, will stretch to 1600chf if I have to.
I have been disappointed by the last two Nikons I have owned (F80 and Coolpix5700). Was thinking Canon E300D, but the Sigma SD10 is quite a fascinating bit of gear.
Any recommendations?

Litespeed,
I have a Canon 350D myself. You won't be dissappointed with one of those for the money. Also the 20D is very good, but recently discontinued. You may still be able to pick one up though. I always check out www.toppreise.ch as they always seem to give the best prices in CH.

I did suggest that they add the dates for the meetups to the calendar and link them to this post - more visibility for this thread - people are reminded on the front page that there is an upcoming event. But I don't think they ever came back to the forum so it never really happened.
I think there are plenty of people here that are interested in digital photography, so you might find a few new faces coming to your meetings from around here.

Am also a member of the DigifotoCH group, but only a virtual member. Have not been to any of the group meetings. The drive is over an hour - one way. If I am in the neighborhood then I will be sure to make the event without a doubt!
As for the quote above... If anybody has any questions with regard to what type, what manufacture, what model, what costs, what accessories... then please feel free to contact me directly - without obligation.
IMO many people buy the wrong camera, because it is cheap. WRONG! Don't skimp on quality!
Drop me a line or give me a "free" call below. (no joke!)
Bests

Scott,
I see you're in Buchs. One of the very active DigifotoCH members works in Buchs but lives in Zurich. Maybe if you post in the yahoo list about wanting to meet members in the area for lunch or drinks he'd respond?
Cheers,
Nick

Probably a good thread to ask...
Any one know where I can get digital photos developed (enlarged to say A4) in a hurry, as in by Friday?
Thanks in advance.

I would imagine that everyone who attends the meet, owns SLRs? Is this something which someone with a puny Nikon Coolpix 3100 could join?
Thanks |

Thanks | | | | | There are 2 groups I regularly participate in:
DigifotoCH - the group that meets in Zurich has a higher proportion of SLR owners but all are welcome. We usually have a drink or two, dinner, then we show our pictures, either digital on a laptop or prints. Some of the group are professionals but many are amateurs with different levels of experience. The next meeting of this group is on Tuesday May 8 at 19.30 at the James Joyce pub in Zurich. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DigiFotoCH
Züriflickrdrinks - this group has a higher proportion of people with point and shoot cameras. We meet a couple of times a month at a bar, cafe or restaurant in Zurich for drinks and dinner. We also meet for photo outings, for example to Bern, Luzern or St. Gallen. Most of the group are amateurs, with different levels of experience. We don't usually show pictures because we see each others stuff on flickr all the time. This group has a younger average age. Visit the group page for information on the next meeting. http://www.flickr.com/groups/zueriflickrdrinks/ What's common for both groups is having an interest in photography and making good pictures irrespective of what camera you have.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Nick
