Ok, shall we do the same route as the previous two weeks? It's fine with me! Just want to make sure no one has some other route they feel strongly about doing, or if you want to alternate with the other side of the lake...
Just a note that I would like to have it here on "our side" next week also, if that is ok. We have guests here then (two girls who will be doing the Zurich Ironman) and they would like to participate at least in the post-ride festivities...

I'm totally happy with "my side" of the lake
Current route is fantastic so no chance of me getting bored with it soon.

And the numbering naming system for each ride seems to no longer be used (shakes head).....that is what happens when you give up control.
There is alot of Swiss genes inside me somewhere, I think.
Have fun, your average time will increase substantially.. .

Guess that's what happens when this actuary goes on sabbatical... All systems are dropped! |

If that can be changed without dumping the RSVPs.

What would summer be without an epic caught-in-a-major-thunderstorm group ride moment!?! You know, the type of storm that would send us into someone's barn while hail smashes into the ground, turn those lovely backroads into streams, and make the one person who thought to bring a rainjacket very happy and the rest of us very jealous as we search for newspapers to shove in our wet jerseys. It's what summer is supposed to be all about, right? ;-)

Not being of the engineering type, what conducts electricity better a carbon frame or an aluminum frame?

My conclusion (and one that's not limited by ... what's the word? oh yes, knowledge) is that there's no risk of electrocution whilst cycling through a storm on a carbon fiber bike as long as you don't blow, wield, or brandish the bike.

As long as you're rolling along on the rubber and air of your tires then surely you'll be insulated from the ground.

Myth: The rubber soles of shoes or rubber tires on a car or bike will protect you from being struck by lightning. Fact: Rubber-soled shoes and rubber tires provide no protection from lightning. The lightning strike between the cloud, and the ground has potentially traveled thousands of metres through thin air; rubber soled footwear or tires are inconsequential.
A couple others: http://www.ussartf.org/thunderstorms.htm http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/ma...res-fireworks/
But no worries -- If it looks like a storm is brewing for Thursday night, we can just skip the ride/getting-struck-by-lightning part and fast-forward to the beer & cookout part! | | This user would like to thank hillseeker for this useful post:

Anyone know where to get a Faraday suit in lycra? | | | | | I heard somewhere that if it is raining, the water on your body creates a Faraday cage on the surface of your skin, protecting you from lightning. If you ride really hard, the sweat should be even better being a better conductor with all the salts in it.
Let me know how you go with that. | | The following 2 users would like to thank Woodsie for this useful post:

This is a bit like going to a rave in a field somewhere - any hints on the starting time, place, route etc?!

FYI.... | Quote: | | | | | The bike has been sold | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Phew! I was almost starting to consider that 750CHF wasn't a lot of money to join the lycra bandits on Thursday evenings and indulge in Hillseeker's legendary hospitality. Though luckily, I did remember that I am far to much of a snob to ride such a popular brand as Trek.
But now it is sold, evil temptation removed...
