Don't forget as well as a passport, to bring Euros for the ice-creams in France.

A few more stats - I believe last year the gang did it with 7 hours of riding and about two and a half hours of stops sprinkled amongst five rest stops (Chillon, Evian, Yvoire, Geneva, and St Prex). The plan will probably be similar again this year.

It's the 7th of September - EnglishForum uses the European method of listing dates. We're giving everyone plenty of warning so that they have time to get prepared for the event and can keep that weekend free.

Although MANY people have told me that they plan to do this event, I've just noticed that the RSVP list is not that long. Maybe people could give a response to let others know how popular and wonderful this event will be.
PS: We might not ride quite as fast as this guy is, or for as long.

Can anyone offer advice on hiring a bike for this cycle tour please?
Will the ones that you can hire from the station be suitable? Or does anyone know a good cycle shop that offers something better?
Thanks

What size and style of bike do you need? I may be able to lend you something. The bikes you can rent from the train station are not particularly light or fast, I wouldn't recommend doing 175km on one of them - it would be do-able, but you would have to work a bit harder than you need to.

| | | Re: The Great Annual Ice Cream Cycle Tour of Lake Geneva Hi Chris, That’s very kind of you, thank you but it's not for me. We have a few friends from the UK that are interested and they are looking to hire bikes rather than go through the hassle of bringing their own over. It may not happen but if it does, we would need a women’s and a mans bike. These people are pretty fit, I' sure they could cope on the basic ones from the station but I'll let them know they are in for a struggle before hand. Wouldn't want to be responsible for any tantrums on route! Thanks

As for road bike rentals around here, I recently discovered that "The Bike" in Pully has a couple of tandems for rent (one road, one mountain), I'll ask whether they also have regular road bikes. There is a place in Les Diablerets that has several road bikes for rent (I don't know the name, but it is a sports store on the main street, they had the bikes on display outside). Right now, that is the closest place I know of, but I'm always looking to find better options because people often ask.

I stopped by "The Bike" in Pully yesterday and they do indeed rent road bikes. Jut give them a call, let them know the frame sizes you need, and they'll try to sort it out for you. Their contact info is on their website here. In case your French is not too good, just ask to speak to Fred, the store manager, who is originally American.

Alright boys and girls. This event is now less than two weeks away, we need to start drumming up some excitement.
So how has everyone's training been going? I think I'm in good form: I've been working on the ice cream eating part, because the last thing I need halfway around the lake is an ice ceam headache. I figure the only way to ensure this doesn't happen is to slowly increase my ice cream intake leading up to this so my body is acclimated.
I try to alternate ice cream containing some sort of chocolate with fruity ones (I hear this works better), but my training regimen got a bit out of whack when I was in Ticino last week. I'm not sure if eating gelato instead of the more solid ice creams they serve here will put me back a bit, and I'm not sure if sorbet technically counts as ice cream, so I don't know if my body thinks I missed a day or not.
However, being the dedicated athlete that I am, I jumped back on the wagon once I arrived back in Lausanne, and think I'll be ready come September 6th. The stracciatella is in the freezer as I write this, ready for dessert tomorrow.
(Oh, and I've ridden over a few reasonable sized-hills in the past few weeks, so the riding part should be okay.)
Heather
