Didn't see you up the Uetliberg last night. Frau Yokine and I bumped into Radar, who needed another workout after a soft Tuesday night MTB ride |

| | | Re: Road Bike Ride, Thurs Nite July 24th | Quote: | | | | | This is a challenging and fun ride in the hills just outside of Zurich, that we do (almost) every Thursday... It is intended for cyclists who are experienced with biking hills and looking for a ride to challenge themselves to ride harder than they might on their own.
Please PM me with your cell number if you're planning to join us if I don't already have it. We can wait a few minutes after 6:30 to start if we know you'll be there soon thereafter...
No ride if raining! Bring lights for your bike if you can - It can get dark toward the end of the ride.
Hope to see you there! | | | | | Too slow Hillseeker, you are supposed to get the useful on topic posts made before we start our pointless drivel |

I know - I am moving too slow today obviously! I hardly have enough energy to type after all that pedaling the past couple days Hey, and you were the one that said you'd be "in a coma the rest of the week", but it seems you are fine -- what a machine!

I think all those magic gels and powders, hydrating and eating good stuff actually works
As for "Machines", the real monsters did another 3 passes yesterday I hear |

Unless of course one pushes it too hard... But we're all still alive so that's a good sign "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger"!
Can't tell you how impressed we all were by you doing it all on the heavier bike. Glad to hear the "magic potions" did their trick!

A new helmet and new wheels (should be good to go if no work issues).

I reckon my legs should have recovered enough for tomorrow night. Sundays hike has played havoc, yesterday walking down stairs was a challenge!
Consider that a bump |

I am looking forward to meeting everyone tomorrow for the ride. Is the profile on the mapmyride site correct?
There is some discrepancy between the amount of climbing and length of ride with what is in the description of this thread. Also, anybody know what grade the large ~1000ft climb at the beginning is?

The 900m comes from a few peoples Polar/GPS units and the 728m from the mapping website. Its safer to believe the 900m when considering the ride
Grades, don't know, but the profile is fair compared to rest of the ride.
For any first timers, the start time is a sharpish 6.30pm to make sure we are back with some light to spare. So please don't under-estimate your journey time to Thalwil.

I had a quick look at the garmin, the first 10k, not counting the short spring along the lake, we go up 400 meters. Gradient is fairly constant, with a few flat sections and a small descent thrown in except for the one very steep hill..at about 15% is not too steep...the last climb up to Albis, you cover about 300 meters ascent in about 8k with a flat section and small descent for recovery. http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/6125142
The elevation is overstated.though, the barometric analysis when I finish is at about 900 meters but Motiobase adjusts it even though I have turned off the corrections?

Thanks for the profile info; I will definitely come for the ride, but suspect I might be dropped as the pace looks a hair faster than my current ability... in which case I hope you will all go ahead and not wait (i will bring a copy of the route and will hope to keep up next time).

I hope there is somebody else coming who has jelly for legs! Mine don't seem to work properly this morning. MTBing with Swiss people should be considered a health risk! |

But right now my legs are fresh - I haven't gotten to bike in over a week since my parents are here visiting, so I'll have to make up for lost time tonight |

Please let us know if you plan to be there - We'll plan to leave at 6:30 but will wait a few minutes if we know you're almost there (i.e. if you call or SMS one of us).
And regarding the pace, it can vary widely, depending on how each rider feels at the moment... sometimes it spreads out on the hills, but we generally regroup at the top of climbs (people usually wait "within reason" & if they know you're almost there) so people won't get lost -- We'll need to keep moving as much as possible though, since the daylight is getting shorter... Speaking of shorter daylight - don't forget to bring some little lights if you have them.
What great weather for a bike ride today! See you in a few hours...
