Baden event suggestions?

With the number of forum members living in Kanton Aargau, specifically the Baden and surrounding areas, we were thinking of organizing some kind of event. There are a few events going on (climbing, cycling - sounds like too much hard work ) and informal gatherings at Pickwicks, but we were thinking of something that would appeal to everyone, not just singles, more family-oriented, possibly activity based, (not necessarily drinking), so that left us with eating.

1. One idea we had was an English book exchange, could include DVDs and PC games too.

2. Another idea was renting a "Waldhütte" which translates to a hut in the woods. There are some very nice ones, such as in Fislisbach, for example. Here is a link. (German only...sorry)
http://www.fislisbach.ch/go.cfm?bere...ite=inhalt.cfm
Scroll down the page to where you see "Waldhütte Fislisbach = optimale Räumlichkeiten für Ihr Fest'"
There are two links at the bottom (shown in blue) one is a pdf file with a floor plan and also a list of the amenities. The other contains photos.

Would love to hear from others on the forum to see how much interest there would be in any of these events for example but please feel free to suggest something else....bowling at the Baregg works too!

Re: Baden event suggestions?

Can it REALLY be that the only thing of interest in Baden is Pickwick's pub?
Absolute NO interest in a get together for the throng in Baden?

Re: Baden event suggestions?

I'm up for most of the ideas mentioned...I'm a big fan of meeting up for coffee in the day for those of you who have working spouses like I do (lucky me), or in the evening for those who have work schedules. It seems like the Baden forum members just need to schedule some consistent events--I for one will attend whenever possible, and have been attending EF events in Zurich every week. I thoroughly suggest the Wednesday afternoon drinks at the wine bar near the Zurich HB for those who can attend during the day. I have met some really good people there.
Since I don't have kids, I'm more interested in adult oriented events, but if there is demand for family events by all means that is a good idea for the "have children" crowd. Is there anyone else out there interested in meeting up for coffee during the day?

Not quite the response I expected . Thanks to those who did reply. Here's the plan, will send a PM to each of you and suggest some dates and venues for our get together, which will not be at Pickwick's.

I'm an (Ennet)badener, and would be happy to participate in any EF events closer to home. Keep me updated on potential outings.

Re: Baden event suggestions?

Thanks Mrs. Doolittle,
I am very much in support of your idea about renting the forest cabin. My wife and I attended a party at a nearby cabin last night and it was very beautiful. Pretty much any age, any type of person would probably enjoy a get together in such a pretty place--which could include campfires, food, music or whatever else we decided upon. In any case, if you want help organizing such an event I would be willing to help. I know my wife and I would be in, and I'm guessing my new friend EF Baden friend Magali and her husband would be interested as well. So, all of you Aargau Kanton EF people out there, respond to this thread and show some interest--I know there are tons of us out there, but very few who seem to want to be active participants in any sort of events--lets change this!

Coffee Tomorrow anybody?

Oh, one more thing...Magali and I are getting together for coffee tomorrow if anyone is interested and is free in the day. We are meeting at Coffee Spetaccalo on Badstrasse in Baden--10:30 A.M. We will post this as a social event in the future, but for tomorrow, just show up if you are interested.

Re: Baden event suggestions?

For those of you interested in something perhaps a little different, I'd suggest coming to the international folk-dance group that meets on Monday nights in the Pfaffechappe schoolhouse, 7:45 to 10 PM. We teach dances for the first half, the natives are very friendly (and speak good English too!), and even if you have two left feet, it's never too late to rectify that condition!

We tend mostly to do dances from the Balkans - Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Greece - but throw in an Armenian or French dance in between as well. If you've never thought of moving to an 11/16ths rhythm, now's your chance! Not at all like square or contra dancing, nor like Highland or Scottish country dancing. Or even belly dancing. These are usually line or circle dances where no partners are required, so single folk are welcome.

And if you get the taste for it, we also organize 4 week-long seminars every year in various parts of Switzerland where you can learn more, including how to play some unusual instruments from this part of the world.

The dance group will be starting up again in mid-August; there will also be a full-scale beginner's class (at another location in Baden) later on in the year. The donation we ask for an evening is 10 SFr.

If you'd like to know more, then send me a private message.

J.

Re: Baden event suggestions?

Hi....my husband and I are just back from a trip to the old country, or I would have replied sooner. We'd love to join in any events that are going to be scheduled. Once Ben and Magali's coffee event is up and running I'll be popping along while the other half is working his bottom off at Alstom.
