City/Town: Basel
Event Type: Other
Meeting Point: Basel SBB

Hi all,

Inspired by the other cycling events popping up, and agreeing at the last events that we should try and continue our leisurely rides/tours around the Basel Region, I now post this.

Wednesday 6th August meeting in front of the SBB from 18:45 (next to the Info signs / Maps) to then leave at 19:00

This time planning to head from from the station along the National Route 2 towards Binningen, Oberwil, then Ettingen, we will then do a route back towards town.

The route would be mostly on cycle paths and not remotely hilly with a length of about 20/25kms again.

Not a timed road race or off-road course, and aimed at all cycling abilities, young and old, who wish to explore the region / do something different aside Curry or Beer (although a beer after doesn't go completely amiss).

As you can see the from the previous events people with a range of different cycling abilities join us, to make for a pleasant evening.

Any questions just post below or PM me,

Pat

Re: Basel Evening Cycle 6th August

Hi,

I'd be interesting in joining in on one of these cycle tours.

Living in Weil, I often cycle to some of the outlying villages in Germany and back. I know of a decent route that could take in all three countries:
Lange Erlen, through the "green border" into Germany, past Laguna, then towards Alt-Weil, Haltingen, Binzen, Fischingen, Efringen-Kirchen, Märkt, Friedlingen, over the Dreiländerbrücke into France, through Huningue, back into Basel...
Anyway, just a suggestion.
I've never been to the Petite Camargue, so I'd be interested in going there as well.

Re: Basel Evening Cycle 6th August

That sounds like a good idea, Weiler. There are some restaurants we could take in, too.

I did the recce last night of the Petit Camargue route (in the rain!)

From the SBB to Petit Camargue I took 45 minutes, my distance read 10Km.

There's a lot of road construction work going on near the border, so I'll have to plan a way around that if we decide to go.

The canal route has a set of models of the sun and planets lined up in proportion to size and distance, so that could be a point of interest. The nature reserve is just behind Uranus (if you'll pardon the expression), and I suggest we take the main road back; the canal path has some sections that are dodgy and I don't think we should do that in the dark.

As far as looking at the nature reserve is concerned, I didn't do so on my recce because it wasn't any fun in the wet. But I think 1/2 hour wandering should be possible.

All in all, we should be out 2 and a bit hours, a bit more than we're used to, but as long as the summer nights are here, it should be OK.

I open the discussion to the floor...

The petit Camargue route sounds good to me. I know a way to get to the canal without having to go near Voltaplatz or any roadworks. I checked with a couple of the others and they seemed up for it too so I'll sort out posting it as an event.
