*The times shown may change, depending on DST settings
City/Town: Zurich
Event Type: Sports
Meeting Point: Triemli Tram Stop

We'll go for a spin on the mountain bikes once again on Tuesday evening. If you are interested in coming sign up here so we know when we have a full complement before heading on up.

Weather permitting we will take the usual the route up Uetliberg, enjoy the view for a few minutes, and then take the Antenna trail or perhaps another trail back down.

The meeting point is here http://tinyurl.com/5bq6q2

The weather is looking a little iffy so stay tuned here for any change in plans. If the conditions of Uetliberg are too bad to ride on Tuesday, I will post an alternative route on this thread.

All welcome, but make sure you have a helmet and if possible gloves.

Small Print: We will be riding on singletrails, so minimum requirements are a reasonable mountain bike with knobbly tires and a willingness to at least attempt the trail.
Anyone participating in the EF rides are doing so at their own risk.

As far as I know there is only one leprechaun going this weekend.

Leprechaun didn't touch you.... But he didn't get your race number back to the race office (closed when we went by today) so you'll have to pick it up off me and post it back to Datasport.

In other news... the bike ride will be going ahead unless someone jinxes the weather. .... sign up sign up if you want to come.

The weather is looking quite horrible for tomorrow evening, but the forecasts have not always been trustworthy lately so we can make a call tomorrow afternoon as to whether the ride will go ahead or if we need to take an alternative route.

I think you need to learn how to interpret a weather forecast and use more then one source.

As it looks now I will still be able to get out on my bike 2 or 3 times this week The source I post had served me quite well, but I back it up with a paid high resolution weather forecast (amongst others) which I have used for marine and mountain weather forecasts for many years. I also look at the radar picture on the day to try to estimate the time I am likely to get rained on if I go out to do something. The forecasts you are regularly posting can mean absolutely anything, this is probably why you find them to be correct!

I generally use the Swiss Meteo, I mean if they don't know.....

I do love the classic catch-all icons they use like for all this week. Sunshine, cloud and rain - I think that should cover all conditions possible in summer I don't really mind getting caught out in a shower MTB riding from home in Zurich, I'm usually not far from a hot shower. On the other hand lots of rain mudding up the trails and poor light due to cloud cover is my main concern.

Altberg trail was lovely late yesterday afternoon BTW. Pure joy on XC singletrack

In my recent experience this symbol

means :

"It will be sunny all day long but will start raining just when you are going out the office".

About right. Also from recent experience, if two locations in Switzerland have the above forecast, it means the place you leave will get the sun part and your destination the rain part.

To be fair, the events of the weekend where in no way Eire's fault. But it just seems right to blame Leprechaun magic for anything that goes wrong.

Traynor + 1 guest - Great alternatives! How can anyone without injuries say no. I assume pouring rain cancels the ride. If the alternative route requires a different meeting place let me know and let me know before 5pm. I have to rent a bike

Pouring rain will indeed cancel the ride. My problem now is that based on the forecast I didn't bring a bike to work with me. If the weather continues to improve I may try to slip home and get it before this evening, but if it looks like the rain is going to come back (which its forecast to) then the ride will be cancelled.

I think the Zuriberg side might be a better option though. I imagine Uetli will be WET WET WET this evening.

Ladies and Gents,
It looks like the weather has decided to not let us out to play this evening.

I think its best to cancel this evening and we will try again next week same bat time same bat channel.

Re: [Zurich] Mountain Biking Uetliberg Tues 19th August 2008

Rather then make a new thread, I've just updated last weeks one since there was no ride due to rain. Hopefully the rain will hold off and let us get out there again this week.

Looking forward to being there on Tuesday, August 19. Hopefully the sun will shine, as it will still be muddy enough.

Was less muddy than I expected yesterday, so it should be just perfect by tomorow!

The trail down from Adlisberg to Burgweis was bone dry this evening. Best I've seen it all year. Uetli should be good tomorrow, providing the forecasted thunder stays away for long enough.

Yeah - thought I'd sneak in an RSVP whilst the handbags were swinging over on the roadie section....
