City/Town: Zurich Area
Event Type: Sports
Meeting Point: TBD

As I can't make Thursday night, I am setting up a ride for Wednesday nite for anyone who wants to go. The route will be determined later but it will involve climbing some hills (as they are good fun and can't really be avoided). Probably will be on the Zurich Oberland side of the lake, as that is where I live.......

According to some it is an 'elite' level ride, though I gave Fabian a call and he is not able to come (he said he might show up for the next Thursday ride though ). In all seriousness, show up and give it a go,

As usual remember the rules:

1) Safety first
2) Wear a helmet
3) Have fun
4) First one down the hill, has to buy the beer.
5) Don't mention the weather.
RSVP'd Yes: 1 (1 members and No guests) RSVP'd No: 5
  • Eire - Unfortunately, won't be able to make Wednesday or Thursday this week. I'm not feeling very "elite" and I am going to a 3 day MTB event.
  • patrickrd - Need to do some serious studying
  • mblume - trying to prepare for alpen-challenge race this weekend, enjoy the ride
  • Yokine - knee is still dodgy for cycling
  • Dr D
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

Re: Zurich Area Road Bike Ride on Wednesday

I am probably going to cancel as an 'official' ride unless anyone is interested. I will probably ride anyhow but can be more flexible then on start times and ease of ride

None has planned for tomorrow as I can't make it due to work and Hillseeker is being a tour guide somewhere. Give me a call or pm.

Re: Zurich Area Road Bike Ride on Wednesday

could you possibly comment on how "elitist" is it?
I'd be glad to join you, but have no intention to be a drag. There are two issues:
- I have no road bike, but an MTB on 1.5" slick tires
- The fitness level is quite in the middle of those who normally participate in tuesday mtb rides

when do you plan to leave off?

Re: Zurich Area Road Bike Ride on Wednesday

Tomorrow will be sunny and I'd like to come if there is a "B" category ride.

Otherwise I'll go alone and fast as a silver bullet on my new TT bike on the flatlands

I can only comment on the ride tonight.

- I am usually the back of the packer on Thursday night rides so don't think the pace will be very elitist tonight.

- A MTB with slicks would probably be acceptable for tonight (on usual Thursday night rides it may be problematic)

- still thinking of starting at 6:30 (but can do a bit earlier)

- I was thinking of starting near Tiefenbrunnen station, climbing up to Forch on a new route I discovered Monday, up from near Kusnachht, not sure what the traffic is like at 6ish as I did it at 7ish and from there a few options depending on how much we want to hurt or not

Thanks, dakman!
Then I will target 6:15-6:30 at Tiefenbrunnen, but it's going to largely depend on the work. Will rsvp here or pm you around 5.

I've eaten too many Gomz Frog's to get on a bike and have too much studying remaining... have fun! I might be up for an informal ride tomorrow night out of oerlikon if anybody is interested... haven't checked the weather...

Re: Zurich Area Road Bike Ride on Wednesday

I can not ride on wednesday evening.

My apartment is in Tiefenbrunen and I often go to Forch and Grefensee by bike.
If someone is interested, maybe we can organise a new session during the next days or weeks ?

Regards

Cedric

There are regular Thursday nite ride (not this week) which usually alternates(somewhat) between the Tiefenbrunnen side and the Thalwil side of the lake. I would highly recommend showing up for one of the rides, the Thalwill side rides our quite brilliant as the route is amazingly mostly traffic free and beautiful.

There seems to be enough cyclists around though having another regular or irregular ride would be possible. Put something on the calendar and see who is interested (that is how I started the whole Thursday nite ride event). Also patrickrd is running regular rides in Oerlikon on Sundays (not this week though)-

Re: Zurich Area Road Bike Ride on Wednesday

Rahul and ppp, thanks for the great ride, it was great fun being out with others as usual. And ppp, great respect for you for giving an all out effort on that climb, it was pretty tough, there were some 18%+ sections....putting in the effort is the key to getting stronger on the climbs.
