City/Town: Basel
Event Type: Other
Meeting Point: Basel SBB

Hi all,

As I mentioned on the previous evening cycle, I said I would post an event for the Basel SlowUp. Much more info can be found on the Basel slowup website:

http://www.basel-dreiland.ch/

You can do this on your own (along with the 1000s of others) and at your own speed, or if wish to join me/us then I suggest meeting as such:

Sunday 21st September meeting in front of the SBB from 11:30 (next to the Info signs / Maps) to then leave at 11:40

This time planning to head from the station to join slowup route over in Kleinbasel.

The route would be mostly on cycle paths or closed roads and not remotely hilly with a length of up to 46km. The route can be seen on the website or as a PDF, and I suggest we do the "North" half first (25km) and then we can see about the "South" half at the crossover of the 2 routes . We have covered most of the routes over the last months with our evening cycles.

Plan to stop at a number of "Fests" organised around the route for refreshment etc.

Not a timed road race or off-road course, and aimed at all cycling abilities, young and old, who wish to explore the region / do something different - The last slowup in Basel 40,000 people took part.

Any questions just post below or PM before the event.

Pat

Cheers Pat,
I'll probably cycle to the SBB from Weil via a more direct route, then join you from there along the official route all the way back to Weil.
Maybe we could stop off for a drink and a snack there, as it'll be lunchtime by then.

Sorry, short notice, but I'm going to have to give this a miss. Too much work on, I'm afraid.

Re: Basel Sunday Cycle - Slowup 2008

Thanks Pat for organising. It was a great day and the weather was fabulous. The fests were so well organised and the beer well deserved. Looking forward to finding out the total km's we managed in the end......it was a fair few I'm sure judging by the aches and pains today!!

We finally got home at 11pm after stopping at a gorgeous little restaurant in Germany before wobbling home.

I'll upload pics soon

11!!!!!! - that was a long day

It was a great ride. I read in the newspapers this morning that again around 40,000 people took part - which was probably in part to the great weather, which as you say was fantastic.

We did 51.2 km, so about 4 more the the main route (ie from the station to join the route etc).

Sorry to leave you early at that last "Fest", but it sounds like you had a great evening .

Pat

Re: Basel Sunday Cycle - Slowup 2008

Really sorry I bailed out at the last second. Not my usual style. Just was exhausted from work and didn't hear the alarm clock. Most embarassing.

Glad you guys had a good time, wish I'd been there.
