It is the first time I have been hit so hard on my ribs. It is a constant pain ( discomfort) . I did not take the pain killers the doctors prescribed, just hope it subsides gradually in next days. Thanks for your concerns.

Re: Saturday Morning Road Bike Ride from Oerlikon

About the ride on Saturday.

Today the snow has melted and almost dissapered on the city, but here over the hills, it is still very snowy and the roads are quite icy.

I read that the prognose for the weekend is that it would be warm, some 10°C and they say we could expect it to be higher. Probably the snow and ice a the hills would be melted then, probably not.

I am thinking that the best for me then would be not to go out with the racing tires but better with the Cross bike.

I was wondering if you could be also interested in doing some offroad cycling instead.

If you have a mountain bike or a bike with wider tires we could go to the forests instead.

I did last week Zurich-Sihlwald-Zürich and it was really great.

what say you ?

I am still planning on the ride as normal (the snow was melted this morning in Oerlikon). If the conditions begin to look dangerous at any point, I will certainly turn around and find another route. The climbs are not all that high, so hopefully it won't be a problem.

I am trying to figure out what I need to wear. What do you expect as the coldest temperature 5 degrees?

For this type of weather I usually wear a windproof liner under a long sleeve jersey, a head liner thing under the helmet, long cycling pants, winter socks, booties, and gloves with fingers... For really cold days I sometimes wear a face mask but not sure if it will be cold enough for that. pictures of some below:

Re: Saturday Morning Road Bike Ride from Oerlikon

Guys, I really need the sport tomorrow, but I do feel that the roads would be ici up those hills so I will do a ride on the Sihlwald forest on the cross bike instead.

if some of you would like to join, I'd be happy to go with a group. But I'd prefer to do it at 12:00 when is warmer.

The Silhwald trails are beautiful and go along the river, then when in Sihlbrugg we can climb up the forest up to the Horgenberg forest.

You'd need knobly tyres for that though, or a mountain bike.

Re: Saturday Morning Road Bike Ride from Oerlikon

Actually Sunday looks better to go on the road
Saturday
/10°
Sunday
/15°

I work at Samstagern, and tonight when i left the office, the roads were still icy and there was plenty of spots full of snow on the roads. The snow is melting slowly but the fields were still white. Tonigh it was cold up there so I imagine it won't melt during the night.

I guess it could melt tomorrow during the day if it is sunny and cool as forecasted.

I'll see how I wake up tomorrow and then will decide. But the most sure thing is I'd be on the forest tomorrow and on the road on Sunday.

Patrick thanks for the great ride and getting me out of the house on a cold day. the fog on top of the hills created a great atmosphere.

Not sure about tomorrow, I probably will stick to an easy ride in my neigborhood.

Re: Saturday Morning Road Bike Ride from Oerlikon

The ride on Sunday was great !

I am regretting I didn't took the bike to work today, It is a great day for cycling, but I am hesitating to go back downhil in the dark at 6pm.

Will do tomorrow though, the weather looks good

Tuesday

/11°

I guess the only solution is to leave my cross bike here at the office and ride during the Mittagspause.

Do you guys have plans to do any rides during the week ?

My legs were suprisingly shattered yesterday. I guess I haven't been on any 3 hour plus intense rides for more than a month.

No, I don't really have time to train during the day (by the time I change clothes, how much time do you really get in) . I will only be doing training sessions on the bike at home in front of the TV and maybe 2 days of running a week - hope to build up to 10k.
