Seek: venues for band to play

I really hope there are people out there who can help me find paying venues for an english rock band, who want to come over in april.

They where here last year in the roadhouse luzern. The guy who organised that is too busy now though, so they asked me if I could have a look around for them. I've never done this kind of thing before, so am not getting very far, which is a shame, seen as they are really good...

Anyone interested?

Re: need venues

They need a manager or an agent. Both of which will need to be paid. I wouldn't get involved unless you have a good reason for doing so (eg getting paid), else you will be blamed for the plethora of things that can (and will) go wrong.

Check out http://www.fossilbar.ch/

Thats a rock bar on the CH/LI/A border. They are always looking for bands. Ask for Hans. He is the owner.

Rock on!

No, not at all. Many bands of this level can and do book entire tours without the need for a manager or agent. That's how smaller bands become bigger bands.

I'm impressed, most people don't know this resource

Don't be put off by the name, by the way. It may be a metalhead's resource, but it lists clubs that do more than just metal. For example, Abart in Zurich does metal, punk, indie, etc.

My point in saying this is that you (as an outsider or friend) get the band a gig, and it falls through, how much thanks do you think you will get ? None. I've seen it happen many times.

I see your point, but mine is that as someone involved in that side of the music business (running a label, writing for magazines, retail and distro mail orders, music photographer, radio DJ, etc. My husband's done show promotions/booking in Zurich and we both have gone on tour with bands - including well known names like Marky Ramone) I know that's how bands need to do it to get ahead. Someone's got to take a chance...

Re: need venues

Anyone whose profession is "involved" in the business of course should be doing everything then can to encourage young bands. The original poster was more concerned with finding gigs for his mate's band coming over on specific dates.

This thankless task is probably second only to being a sound engineer...

Theres lots of interesting stories about life in the band (especially the thread about Groupies ) here

Indeed, number one thankless task is the sound guy.

However, it is often through the efforts of friends that bands can get gigs and get a tour set up. I stand by that statement.

Fair enough. I've just been looking at your photos website: some very good high-energy stuff on there!
