Meeting Point: Turbinen Halle restaurant

Calling all EF cyclists (road and mountain)... It has been a great cycling season. Let's get together and celebrate it!!

Wednesday night, December 3rd - 7pm

Litespeed has suggested this restaurant: Turbinen Halle - He says "it's very spacious, friendly and non-smoking, and the food is supposed to be excellent. It's on the Tram 2 line and there is some parking available."

Come see what your biking friends look like without a helmet (if you can recognize them)!

All are welcome - Come talk with other cycling addicts, meet possible training partners, and start making plans for another great cycling season in '09.

See you there!

Re: EF Cyclists End-of-Season Social

Mark your calendars for Wednesday December 3rd...
(changed from the previous week - I hope this works for you all)

This restaurant is supposed to have really good food... which is good so we can replace all those calories we burned while biking this summer

Maybe we should all wear our spandex anyway just so we can recognize each other.

Yeah! I know Woodsie would especially love that

Or maybe we could have a "nametag" for each person that just has a picture of their bike, so we could recognize each other that way

That creates a huge problem for Nick.

He would disappear behind all the pictures of bikes.

I think everyone should have to wear those winter cycling trousers that have the braces coming over your shoulder - so we all look like Borat

Re: EF Cyclists End-of-Season Social

Looks like we are going to have a great turnout of cyclists at our social next Wednesday evening!!
I have checked out the restaurant in person and it is a cool place with a very nice and festive atmosphere.

With such a large group as we have, the restaurant has to know ahead of time what food we will be having. We have the choice between a banquet-style dinner seated at long tables where we all eat the same thing, or the more social-style Apéro where we stand around tall tables with drinks and “heavy hor d’oeuvres” (as we would call it in the U.S.)

I figured we would prefer the latter, Apéro-style since after all this is a “Social” And that makes it easier to move around and talk with several different people. If some would like to have a sit-down dinner afterward then that should be no problem.

Though you might not have much room left after these appetizers…

Variety of homemade Quiches, served warm:
-Vegetables with curry sauce
- Spinach and feta
- Cheese and leeks
Variety of breads filled with spreads such as:
- Brie
- Smoked salmon
- Special ham
Quesadillas:
-Avocado
-Vegetables
- Corn
Crispy baked Shrimp with Sweet Chili Sauce
Vegetarian Springrolls with Sweet Chili Sauce
Roasted meatballs with Asian sauce

The cost for the food is Fr. 23 per person (which also includes their fee for reserving the space and setting it up for us), plus the cost of any drinks you have (we don’t have to pre-plan that part).

Are you in?? You also have the choice of having only drinks and no food (but be aware if we catch you taking any your hand will be cut off! and then it would be much harder to apply the brakes on your bike ) Please PM me confirming whether you would like to partake in the food, and I will reply with my e-banking info (since I have to confirm in advance), by the end of this week. Thanks!!

Good question... Well the Swiss seem to enjoy them no matter where they're played.... Hey - maybe we can play for tips and pay off our food that way!

Re: EF Cyclists End-of-Season Social

Thanks for all your replies so far! Seems like the general trend is that this is a social and hungry crowd, so Apero it is...

I'll be gone for a couple days but back by the end of the week, so keep your PMs coming this week and I'll get back to you on Friday... Ciao

Glad you can join us, Nathu - Ya got in right under the wire!

If any other cyclists out there would like to join us for the social this Wednesday, you are more than welcome... There is no requirement to give advance notice if you want to stop by for just drinks...

BUT if you want to be included in the food, please let me know ASAP!! (I know, I am feeling so bossy about this but after all we are in Switzerland where obviously all things must be planned in advance !)

Re: EF Cyclists End-of-Season Social

Woot woot! Two days to go!!!
  1. hillseeker, I know you're probably sick to death of me by now, so I'll try and talk to other people throughout the evening to give you a break.
  2. Southie, I hate to disappoint you but I think I'll leave the spandex at home (this time).
  3. dakman, I made the lottery for next year's Maratona , so expect endless questions all night long.
And If we're late (we are coming after work from Lausanne, after all) save us some food! Seeing as this is a group of cyclists, I know there is a high probability it will all be eaten by 7:30.

Yes see you then.
Congrats, MD is a really great event, you will be fine the climbs are shorter than you are used to around here - biggest is only 15k but most are less than 10k. the only bear of the one, I have been told, is the Giau (?) which is on the long course so I missed that one.

Anyway, as a trade off you can tell me everything about cross country skiing...

You don't need a bike, this is just a drinking event....you just need to be able to endure hours of discussing cycling while enjoying a pint...

Not even a drinking event for some Just a bunch of cycling obsessives minus their bikes and smelly riding clothes, talking about bikes and cycling.
