Karaoke [suggestion for an event]

Hi people,

I am curious if anyone out there knows any karaoke bars in Zürich or Luzern?

There are generally two types of karaoke clubs:
  • Public Stage: you go in front of all the guests and sing until you finished (or get booted off the stage due to the uniqueness of your voice/talent);
  • Private Rooms: you have a room for a group to sing in your own privacy. (my preferred option)
My questions are:
  1. Any ideas if there are such clubs in Zürich/Luzern?
  2. Anyone interested in joining in a karaoke session (if a club is found)?
Please let me know if you're interested, it is a lot of fun! Usually people have a few drinks to absorb other people's "special talents", or you can always get completely wasted, in which case even a goat would sound like Britney Spears!!! (Don't ask me how I know that! )

Hope to hear your responses.

Cheers,
A

Re: Karaoke

This place is close to my office. I've wound up there a few times after far too many beers in work-pub. There's nowt special about it, but it's fairly central. It's "public stage"

Re: Karaoke

The public stage format is surely the way to go. What is the point if you cannot make a fool of yourself in front of loads of people that you don't know? I cannot sing (not even close), but in Canada I used to LOVE getting up on stage to slaughter one of my favorite songs like it had never been slaughtered before. As long as you're not shy about it and you do something that will entertain the crowd then they'll appreciate it. At least, that is what I always told myself, and my friends who were rolling around on the floor laughing seemed to agree. I think that DanielL and I could do a great duet.

Re: Karaoke

hahaha.. thanks DanielL for the tip! I tried googling a bit, but having everything in German and not living in Zürich made things less helpful to me, so I am checking things based on local knowledge.

ChrisW, I agree with you hahaha.. doing things in public is fun (well, not everything there's a time and place for certain things *cough*..*cough*) . I personally don't mind the public scene if people are keen.

So, does that mean we have 2 people interested so far?

Good God no. I have rocked up there a few times really smashed (and it must be said I have quite a voice at those times), but can't see myself doing it otherwise.

Just letting you know where you can embarrass yourself

Re: Karaoke

If anyone is interested in a jam session, there are 2 that I know of that are pretty laid back and fun. Thursdays at the Tonight Bar which is close to the Altstetten side of the Europabrucke bridge. I can't find a website for it, and the signage is terrible, so will try to find an actual address and post that soon. Wednesdays at Second Floor in Uster, but you might have to be a club "member" to do that one. If anyone wants more info drop me a line....

Re: Karaoke

I know of a Thai restaurant in Oerlikon that also has Karaoke. It also looks suspiciously quiet, so if anyone would like an, erm, more private setting for try outs, then I can find out more details about it.

Re: Karaoke

We stumbled into the Nelson's bar at Kloten on a Thursday night and they had Karaoke in full swing.

Not my thing, even the cat leaves the room when I start to sing!

Re: Karaoke

I'm up for it too if reachable from German border country..... I saw also a Karaoke Joint (if that's what you call them) on the road north of Brugg (AG). They have Karaoke Fridays and Saturdays I think.

Re: Karaoke

There's a Thai karaoke place just off Helvetiaplatz.

Most of the songs are in Thai but they have some English stuff as well.

There's also a Karaoke place just round the corner from the New Dub/ Paddy Reillys.

Re: Karaoke

Just FYI everyone...this thread came up at such a perfect time! I am re-debuting my karaoke career tonight in Bern. It will be my first time in Switzerland. I only did it once before in the States.

I know it's a bit late, but I will put up the announcement in Commercial Events.

Re: Karaoke

Acapulco bar close to Lanstrasse in Zurich has a karaoke night on Sundays I think, I've been there once and it was fun. Also, I've heard of the "Karaoke From Hell", Tuesdays at the Mascotte club in Zurich... there you actually have a live house band accompany you, sounded like fun, but I've never been. If people wanto to check out either of the places, I would likely be up for it.

Re: Karaoke

Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback from all.

So, below is a list of people that have expressed interest (or the possibility of joining upon convincing):
  • ChrisW (convicable)
  • Diem
  • Worm_Buffet
  • 2 fun/laid-back friends of Tonyasam
  • Carrie (if ChrisW joins)
  • Ritchi
  • dule
If you want to add/remove your name above, just let us all know. You can also send me a PM.

So far, it seems the following places can be tried for a karaoke night:
  1. Lauschuli's Karaoke Bistro, Zürich (suggested by: DavidL)
  2. Acapucloe Bar, Lanstrasse-Zürich (suggested by: dule)
  3. Thai Karaoke, Helvetiaplatz (suggested by: Rob)
  4. Somewhere north of Brugg (suggested by: Ritchi)
I live in Luzern, and busy the whole time during the week, so the weekend is a good time (Fri/Sat night) in Zürich would be cool. So, what day suits you best?

Re: Karaoke

I'm in no matter what! Basically I was just giving a shout out to Heather and ChrisW because we met at the EF Xmas Party.

My karaoke motivation is pretty solid no matter who turns up. Would be nice to stay over at a friend's if I come all the way to Zurich! Hint hint! Friday or Saturday sounds good.
