does any one know about any social events taking place in Lausanne. I am new to the city and looking forward to meeting new people.
any help will be greatly appreciated.

Time for another social event in Lausanne! Due to some people's commitments for Valentine's Day, this one will be happening on Thursday, Feb 15th (2007), again starting at about 8:00pm. This time we'll give the King Size Pub a try, I hope that we can continue to have as much success as the first such event (see this thread).

The King Size Pub has a much larger selection of beers than the Pinte Besson (where we went last time), but the drinks do tend to be slightly pricier. It's in the 'Flon' region of Lausanne, here's a link to a map and the pub's own website. It's a very short walk from the Flon metro station, the Bel Air or St Francois bus stops, or there are several parking lots marked on that map.

Just like last time, we'll bring HeatherM's moose (the one in her avatar, again see this thread) which we'll try to keep in as obvious place as possible so that new people can find us. Remember that everyone is invited, they do not need to be members of this forum - please feel free to bring along partners, friends or colleagues.

Have been reading the threads about pub evenings in Lausanne. I´ll be moving from Sweden to Lausanne in about one month. Would really enjoy to join you at the first possible option.

I won't be staying too late, as I have to catch a 6:50 flight the next morning from Geneva (which means a very early train from Lausanne) but that won't stop me from indulging in a few hours of light socialization (i.e. ).

What a blast evening we had !!!
It was great to see you all last night. We had a very good turn out. Lets keep it up and meet again in two weeks. If anyone feel like going out on a non-scheduled date, just email me. Chances are that I will be available most of the time as I have not really started working on my project and have plenty of free time in the evenings.
We should also look into organizing some kind of sport event be it going to watch a game or even playing some sport. I am into beach volleyball and there are plenty of people at my institute who like to play beach volleyball in the summer.

One of the chemistry labs I worked near for the last few years was working on anti-cancer research... somehow it always attracted many nice girls. The problem was that without exception they were all attached.

Beach volleyball could be fun. There's touch rugby as well, unless I'd have to explain the rules of that to everyone. I found myself trying to explain the principle of cricket to an Italian, a French girl and a Byelorussian a week back and that wasn't easy, so I might shy away from properly suggesting beach cricket unless everyone knows how to play that.

Sounds like everyone had a good time...couldn't make it to that night, as mentioned by LausanneBrit, but I hope we can get there for the next one. We are in and out of the UK trying to organise some things, but will try our best to attend.

La Bossette sounds like a good suggestion to me, quite a cool little place, not too busy, huge selection of beers and some food there.

If people fancy mixing drink, food and some pool, we could always aim for Taco's in the Flon? Not a bad little place mid-week.

In future I may be able to help in terms of explaining cricket rules to ladies. But I don't mind trying beach cricket. I have not played cricket in a long long time , but sure can pick up easily.
