| You better make sure they are stocked up again! It was drunk dry of Guiness after the rugby yesterday. | |

But what a game! Absolutely excellent, nail-biting stuff. Shows up football/soccer for the acting-fest that it has become in the last few years.
They're usually clued-up for Paddy's Day. Outside bar with extra kegs and lots of plastic glasses to eliminate the possibility of running out of glasses. The only danger is the weather. If it's cold/wet, everyone is going to be crammed in a smoky bar which speaking from experience isn't any fun. As long as they can open up the pavement area in front of the pub, happy days.
Worst plannning I ever saw in Zuerich at a pub was in the Twist on the night when both Ireland and Switzerland were playing World Cup qualifiers. The pub was packed to the rafters but they had TWO staff on, one at the front and one at the back. To compound matters they were both Swiss so weren't really very good at handling the situation. One of the barmaids was busy chatting to one of her mates half the time and whenever anyone ordered a Guinness she'd go and pour it first and wait for it to settle/re-pour before getting the other drinks instead of going and getting the rest of their order in the 'Guinness wait time'.
I stood at the bar from 5 mins before the match started to 10 mins before half time, no sign of getting served. THEN they announced that they'd run out of glasses (How? They'd only managed to serve about 20 pints all evening as far as I could see) and stopped serving. No chance of continuing to offer any of the bottles or cans that they also had behind the bar. We walked out in disgust.
(This was just after the authorities had clamped down on work permits in casual jobs ... Up until a few weeks before, the Twist had always had loads of 'backpackers' working as staff who really knew what they were doing and were friendly, fast and efficient.)
