Re: Anyone going skiing tomorrow, 29 Dec

I'm going to Bennau, is 30mins from Zürich, just before Einsiedeln

I have a 10 lift rides ticket so I'll go and use them

It is an small station with one lift but has quite wide slopes.

If you want to come with me, let's meet at home tomorrow around 10

Re: Anyone going skiing tomorrow, 29 Dec

This is a "Dorf skilift" that is, it is not an ski station, it is a lift operated by a village.

I found it when I was going direction to Einsiedeln, it is just after the Biberbrugg train stop.

Only 30 minutes by car from Zürich Center and some 50 minutes by train, ( S2+S13).

They have a quite high hill there and 3 lifts

1 for the baby slope and 2, 900mts lifts that take you up the hill

From there you can come down thorugh many paths around the hill and they prepare the slopes but you get also a lot of off piste to come down.

the level would be a blue piste the slope is quite steep so you could come down fast and jumping the many bumps it has or you can make your own path.

As I am not so fond of the big stations that are more than 1 hour away by car and cost some CHF 60 -70.- for the day, that I will not use as I am an intermediate skier, so I won't use the reds and blacks, this Bennau skilift is more than enough.

You can get a 10 rides ticket for 29CHF and in an afternoon I use 4 or maybe 5 rides, so it comes economical and allows me to go more often.

Also you can go there for 8CHF train ticket, i have the all zones abo and so by train it costs me nothing, but these days I have been going by car.

here some info I found in the web

Re: Anyone going skiing tomorrow, 29 Dec

Thanks for that, yes I have passed this place a few times on our way up to Brunni, I also like these small places especially as I'm not a confident skier and am only at blue run level, I just always like to see a piste map to get an idea of what the runs might be like (due to my nerves!) but if you say the runs are all blue then may check it out next time instead of going to Brunni - going to check out Elm tomorrow as they're quite a few blue runs there it seems

We stopped off t a little ski lift on the way back from Eisiedeln once and I think it was this place is this in the same area as Bennau?

No, that's on the other side of the mountains I guess. Bennau is just to the side of Biberbrügg

Brunni is also good, and they have a more advanced slopes up to the second lift.

I was going there, but one day on my way to Brunni I saw the sign at Bennau and stoped there.

Bennau is smaller but as I told you the slopes are quite wide and you can approach them in many different ways, you can then come slowly doing turns or come down real fast and jumping like some guys there do.

You will find Elm quite steep. Even the blues in Elm I find more comparable to the reds in a lot of other resorts.

Re: Anyone going skiing tomorrow, 29 Dec

Any idea how much would it cost to rent a gear? Is it available in the ski resort or one has to arrange it beforehand from renting stations? I used to ski when I was 14 but now twenty years later I will need to get used to it again.

Have you tried Flims? Yes, it is an hours drive, but it's worth it even for a day. There are some fantastic Blue runs for practising. The run from Vorab to Nagens is excellent. I'm only in my second ski season and there is enough stuff at my level to keep me busy all day.

And Flims can get just as crowded as Flumserberg. Granted there is more space for people to spread out at the resort but it still gets quite crowded.

Anyone see the news last week? 15000 people at Flumserberg on Jan 2nd!!!!!

Re: Anyone going skiing tomorrow, 29 Dec

I was in Hoch-Ybrig this Saturday and I have never seen more people on a slope at a time. It was like a mass rally and right enough a boarder hit me while he couldn't control his speed, I managed to escape unhurt but was a bit shocked. Its crap to be a in a place so full.

Exactly why I avoid places like that on Holiday weekends. There are so many other places. Go to the less popular resorts when its busy.

Another reason to get into ski touring....if only I was a better skier......

Though, I don't understand some of these people I see ski touring up the normal pistes at big resorts...saving money on the lift tickets?
