I really recommend the Luzern parade. I couldn't believe the effort put into some of the costumes. I am thinking of going earlier with my son.

I'll be in and around the crowd, but I don't think I can make the meet.
As another tip, watching the parade is fun, but make sure to head to Unter der Egg, all the bands play on the steps there, one after the other in a giant orgy of guggen music, and everyone is dancing along. I will warn you, it is jam packed round there
EDIT:
Getting a costume is a good idea too, even if it's just a funny wig and glasses

What I cannot promise, alas, is that you will be involved in it.
Unless you happen to be female, aged 25 - 40, and more attractive than any other offers I might get tomorrow evening...

Another tip, don`t throw confettie at the witches, or the guys with the long wigs on, i did this last year, and got kidnapped and thrown in the confetti bin it took me ages to get all the confetti out of my clothes, including my bra, and i was still finding the stuff weeks later . This year when i saw them coming i hid so they wouldn`t see me | | The following 3 users would like to thank Sutter for this useful post:

That's one of my biggest worries -- confetti in the bra.
One question: how do celebrants keep warm in their costumes?

I'm not liking the confetti on the sidewalks 'coz the pup eats it and it comes out in her poo. Colourful dog poo, anyone? Can I throw it at those carnivalists? | | The following 2 users would like to thank argus for this useful post:

I was down there last night, all the confetti mixed with the slush has made an intersting mix that colours your shoes.
As a tip, wear some sturdy shoes, it's damn slippy out there, and your toesies will be trodden on more than once.
