| | | Where to go for St. Paddy's in Lausanne?
Is there a good place/pub to go to for St. Patrick's Day in or near Lausanne for the Irish or just the Irish wannabes?

I was asking the same thing earlier, but no one would answer me. |

There's something going on here:
"To celebrate St. Patrick’s weekend you are invited to join our visiting harpers and friends from Ireland for an old fashioned evening of Ireland’s musical heritage.
Fiddle, harp, whistle, song, bodran and bass combine in a programme guaranteed to charm and entertain, and of course to get you into the spirit for Ireland’s National Day, March 17th!""
Everyone welcome, no matter what your nationality you will get a real Irish welcome.
Beverages will include Guinness (naturally), Kilkenny and Irish Coffee
Friday March 13th at 21.00 in the CPO, Beau Rivage 2, 1006 Lausanne"
Apologies for cross-forum posting.

Looks like it could be some craic. But I'd stay away from the Guinness, just to be safe.

the atmoshere in 'The Great Escape' & 'The Etoile Blanche' should be pretty good. It always has been in the past.

Ok folks,
I've heard a vicious rumour that there is some form of drinking establishment aimed at the Irish and (as The Spouse so eloquently says above)the Irish wannabes in the town of Lausanne. Now I've ne'er been to this particular drinking establishment, but maybe someone here on EF has frequented it in the past (or still does) and can tell me if it's worth a visit, or if it should be avoided, like so many other "Irish" pubs worldwide.
Thanks,
Sharkey

well there was Kerrigan's but that was a really plastic paddy pub. and the clientele was incredibly young. not sure if it is still open even.
i'd stick with the 'ex pat' bars, mentioned above 'Great Escape' & 'Etoile Blanche' 'Captain Cooks' sure they are reasonably 'British' but they know how to do a p1$$ up.
Kings Size should be alright too and I suppose the White Horse in Ouchy might worth a beer but they were never my thing especially after the Great opened up.
There is a strange place opposite the station, beside the metro stop and behind a pizza place that I have never been to.
Thats about as many paddy bars quasi or other wise as I can think of in Lausanne. FYI: I am a paddy and have done the rounds! (c;

Kerrigan's is now Harper's. GE (Great Escape) is always packed and good atmosphere. Etoile Blanche is slightly more... sophisticated... unlike Captain Cook's which is slightly less. King Size is expensive and quite Swiss in its approach, as is the White Horse which would show the national Swiss football in preference to an England International.
Fortunately for you, GE and Harper's and CC and Etoile Blanche are all not too far apart so you can have a good crawl |

Mr. Big and I will do the crawl tomorrow. Does anyone know which (if any) of the above are the least smokey? I can deal with it but Mr. Big gets chokey, which leads to fussy, which leads to griping, which leads to major unpleasantness later in the evening, if you know what I mean. |

i don't know about harpers/kerrigans but etoile blanche has a greater volume (higher ceiling) so the smoke is less annoying; Cooks is small and can be pretty bad, The Great is in between and the atmosphere makes up for it.

bill | | | | | I'm afraid you're going to stink like a putrid ashtray as a result of the disgusting smokers wherever you go . The laws haven't yet been introduced, Bill, and I guess you can see what I think about that
Otherwise, I'd agree with Bill's analysis.

Apparently the new US Ambassador to Ireland is going to be Dan Rooney, owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers...
Maybe we could get them over for a game in Croke Park... Maybe even an Aussie rules style affair...
