Re: Zurich Photoclub

For those of you interested in photographic equipment cameras lenses etc. There is a photo market on in Bern on the 1st November from 9-16.00 at the Kursaal in Bern. Youlll find lots of second hand cameras , and lenses as well as new ones to buy. There is alos usually a large amount of related photo equipment such as Flashes , brollys, studio gear etc etc, so could be worth a visit.

Berner Fotoborse 1st november , kursaal Bern.

Group activity

Hopefully you have noticed that some of the upcoming events have some restrictions attached about being a regular participant before you can attend. There will always be events arranged from time to time of a more social nature where new people are welcome. However, some events can only accomodate limited numbers so it makes sense to have some sort of selection criteria. Firstly, the group is simply for people who have an interest in photography and want to improve.

So how do you get considered to be a regular?
  • Attend events.
  • Take photos.
  • Signup to the Flickr group.
  • Introduce yourself in the Who are you? thread.
  • Post pictures to Flickr. This means at least one photo from each event.
Any questions? Either ask here or PM Karl or me.

Re: Zurich Photoclub

Hello all,

I'm a total newbie here and would like to attend a 'strobist' style meetup - any idea when the next event may be held?

On a related note, and apologies for taking this slightly off topic... Could anyone tell me the brand name of the adaptor I would need for attaching an umbrella to a flash gun? I love the idea of using an off camera flash and have experimented with good results in the past, but now I'd really like to soften the light. I have a 'diffuser' attachment for the flash, which is practically useless. It does have to be a proper box or umbrella.

I'm really looking forward to meeting you all at future events. I've also signed up for the Swiss Strobist newsletters - how many of you are members there as well?

Hi Charlie, for a brand name you could get a Manfrotto umbrella adapter but Eschenmoser also stock a perfectly good one, at half the price, by Photoflex.

I'm also a member of Swiss Strobist and have been to 3-4 meetups. It's well worth doing if you really want to practice with off-camera small flashes. Karl has such a Zurich photoclub meeting on his list of ideas.

8. Technical Day/evening,, where we can all swap and try out each others lenses and cameras.
Ah... like during the post-shooting drinks....

I am not sure if this is relevant, but I think that people make the most progress when they work out the aperture and shutter speed thingy. This may come a bit late, but I would suggest a "manual" day where participants would be required to put their cameras on manual and use the light meter and the histogram to expose the images correctly. I think that the histogram may perhaps be the most useful tool that the digital age has brought to photography, but it can be a bit intimidating at first.

This evening would also include the artistic aspects of the aperture size and the shutter speed and how those can be used to creatively affect the pictures. This would be a sturdy basis for all those great themes that have already been proposed.

I have only attended two times, so I apologise if these aspects have already been covered.

PS. A DPchallenge.com theme/shoot-for-a-challenge night might also be interesting.

Hi Phil,

you can only join the flickr group, once you have attended one of our meetings and taken pictures. Once you have done that and the pictures are ready to be posted, you send me a PM with your email adres and you will then recieve your invite.
Thanks
Karl

Is that new? It would help new people if these T&C are also posted on the Flickr group's About page.

Another possibility is to use the Flickr "Join group" option where a request is automatically sent to the group admin's (i.e. Karl's) Flickr/Yahoo email account for approval.

There will be presentation of new cameras+products; tests; a foto exhibition of famous cameramen - they will present live at the event. Free sensor cleaning of your camera and much more. After the event, you can continue to the : Lange Nacht the Hotels Bars in Zürich and you can make foto-shooting at different bars. Then the best foto will be chosen and you can win a new Nikon camera - organized also by the foto event in Baden.
