Re: Basel Photoclub

Great photos Muhammed. At least you had the sense to stand back a bit - I was pretty well cooked where I was standing

Sander: My photos were also pretty noisy and I ended up running them by a noise reduction filter in photoshop. I used a free one by Colormancer (http://www.colormancer.com/noise-reduction/index.htm) which works ok. I've recently bought Lightroom 4 and that has noise reduction apparently. haven't really tested the software out too much.

I'll put up a notice in the social forum for the visit to the flohmarkt.

Thanks Dennis, they were 100% auto mode so camera takes the credit!

Yeah it was pretty toasty... I did get close every now and then, got home to discover loads of holes in my jacket!

Looking forward to the next outing, should be fun

Re: Basel Photoclub

Morning chaps, is there a preference for the flohmarkt this weekend in regards to time? The markt starts at 10am and finishes at 4pm - if we go early there might be something worth buying, while if we go late maybe not so much. I've never been so not sure if there will be anything worth buying anyway - I may be able to sell off my macro lens finally though!

The forecast for Sunday is scattered showers so does anyone have ideas as to what to shoot if the weather goes south? If you don't mind getting wet, we could visit a derelict rail bridge near Schorenweg (top right and bottom left of the map - http://goo.gl/maps/NbnbI) which has potential for macro, landscape and urban portraiture with a few off camera flashes. I'm not entirely sure about access to the top right bridge but I've seen kids walk on the bottom left one. I'm open to ideas though.

We'll meet at the McDonalds at Barfusserplatz and then get the 10 tram at 9:45 or so outside the theatre.

See you there.

Re: Basel Photoclub

Thanks to Muhammed (homesick_alien) and Sander (Sander1984) for taking part today. Had a great day checking out old gear (including some very expensive Hassleblad kit) and ... erm ... gaining access to a disused rail bridge near Lange Erlen and taking some great shots.

Grabbed a quick portrait (well, setting up took a while): Muhammed & Dennis at the back, Sander front.

A few others:

And this random guy spotted on the way home:

Re: Basel Photoclub

I've been doing some research for an alps trip to catch some star trails and I have a proposal.

There is a hotel at Schwarzsee, near Zermatt, which has a large panoramic deck which would be ideal for taking photos. See http://www.schwarzsee-zermatt.ch/hotel for more details.

I was thinking about heading there for the evening of July 6th (Saturday) as it's a new moon (so a dark sky for catching trails better) and also because my wife and baby will be in the UK seeing family so I get a free pass

Could I get a show of hands to see who would be interested. I'll email the hotel to see how many rooms are available which will obviously define how many of us can turn up.

I'm hoping that we can get a shot like this

Chaps, I've set up a calendar invite to go photograph star trails near Matterhorn for July 6/7. If you are interested, can you RSVP at the link below so that I can book accomodation. Need numbers by mid April, after that you'll have to arrange your own bed for the night.

Hi 10 pixels,
On the calendar link, there are details about the rooms and prices. They range between 110-130CHF for the night depending on the room and how many you share with. Not sure if you want a personal room - i think they are only available in Zermatt. Transport costs you'll have to check on sbb.ch if you plan on getting the train. I plan on driving as I'm picking up a new car in May so it would be a good chance to give it a work out. I can take 3 others comfortably, 4 at a squeeze.

Rough itinerary is also on the calendar link - travel down Saturday morning. perhaps a hike Saturday afternoon. End up at Schwarzsee for dinner and star trails. Sunday maybe some dawn shots, a hike back to Zermatt and then travel home Sunday. Plans are rough but I'm open to suggestions

Dear Dennis

Thank you for the info. The itinerary looks good.

If I can get a ride, it'll be a Yes for me.

Hi,
Is this photography club still active? I'm Prakash from Singapore here on assignment for 6 months. Photography is one of my hobbies and am keen to join folks who go on photography trails in and around Basel. Thanks!

Hi Prakash,
The group is indeed active, we meet roughly once a month. If you have any ideas for a shoot or what to organise a meet yourself, feel free to post details on this thread, or put it in the EF calendar.

I've been on holidays and had a few guests stay so haven't had a chance to organise anything for April. I'm currently inquiring with Novartis Campus security about a group photo pass for some architecture shots. Will probably be on a week night when the weather is a bit better. Will let you know details when/if I have them.

Anyone else have any ideas for a shoot now that the days are longer/warmer/sunnier?

Dennis

Re: Basel Photoclub

Hi Dennis,
Novartis Campus at night sounds like a wonderful idea! I work for Novartis (Schoren) and have visited the campus a few times and was myself thinking of doing some photography there. So please let me know if this materializes. Or worst case we could both go. Preferably a Fri/Sat night? Am not sure if you are from Novartis as well. But if not (and if you need some help with this photopass), let me know and I can take a look.

Prakash.

Re: Basel Photoclub

I work for Novartis at the campus, so you could say that I'm the inside man in order to obtain access. I just submitted the photography permit form this afternoon so I'll see what comes back from security in terms of permission.

Assuming we have permission, can people let me know what day of the week works best for you? Ideally the shoot will be on a weeknight after work (7pm or later) so that there is still light but less people to get in the way. The plan is to do this early May.
