Re: Basel Photoclub

Ok, the photograph permit has just arrived so we are good to go, apart from the weather, which looks a bit rubbish for the next few weeks.
I'll update the thread when the date is finalised. So far any day bar Tuesday is ok - anyone else have any restrictions?

Re: Basel Photoclub

Hi chaps,
I checked the forecast again today and it now looks like Wednesday should be a good evening to go photographing. Can you please let me know by Wednesday morning if you can make it? I'll need names to put on the security notification so if you can PM me your name I can add you to the list... unless you already work for Novartis as which point please bring your pass!

Re: Basel Photoclub

Hi Dr_D - if this is planned for this Wednesday, I´d be very interested. I work for Novartis on the campus, so have badge.

What time are you planning on meeting up? In front of the main gate?

It would be great to finally be allowed to take some pics on campus

Re: Basel Photoclub

I was thinking about meeting up with the external folk around 7pm at the main reception and then head to the visitors centre so we can plot out what we want to shoot on the map. We should have about 2, maybe 3 hours, of useable light.

Make sure you bring a tripod!

Re: Basel Photoclub

Hi Guys,
I have just moved to Basel last month and now that i've found my camera and tripod back in the moving boxes, I would be interested in joining you for some photography every now and then.
The shots you posted here look great! If you could keep me updated of new trips/shoots that are planned? I will try to come up with some ideas too.

Re: Basel Photoclub

Sorry chaps, been busy with work so not posted in a while.

Attached are a few shots from the Novartis Campus shoot the other week. Quite happy with the results.

Not sure of the next meet. I would like to arrange a meetup in June - July is a trip to Zermatt - but have run out of ideas. Anyone got any suggestions as to where to go?

I'm away w/e of the 8th but should be around rest of the time.

Re: Basel Photoclub

Is anyone interested in doing a 28 Day's later shoot? The idea is to meet up late on Friday 21st (longest day of the year) and take photos in the early morning light (sunrise 5:30am) while no one is around, like the shots of London in the film 28 Days Later.

Example from my UK photo club

(C) Kevin Leitch

Basel might be a bit dull, or not iconic enough, but perhaps Zurich or Lucerne, which is an hour away by train. What are people's thoughts? Might arrange a linkage with the Zurich photographers as well if we go for Zurich

Alternatively meeting Saturday 22nd for a Sunday shoot may be better since everything is shut Sunday anyway.

Hi All, posting also few shots from the Novartis - HR building was a real highlight
Good Idea for the next shoot Dennis and both of the proposed dates are ok for me. Few cups of coffee and it should be lots of fun
If anyone is interested I'm planning a short trip to Venice the weekend after(28-30/06,flying with Easyjet from Basel) to also capture some sunrise/sunset photos with a few friends - in case someone wants to join - you are more than welcome. Sander

Re: Basel Photoclub

Hello all,
it's been a while since I tried to find some beginners lighting setup(min 2 stands + 2 softboxes) for portrait/flash photography.
I checked quote a bit from Amazon and was considering to buy the following: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...=AWK1Q6AQWBW6H

unfortunately Amazon does not ship this particular item to CH...

Now I found a bargain at:
http://zurich.deindeal.ch/de#!/colle...2/option/24533

specifically angebot 2:

Angebot 2: CHF 169.– statt CHF 499.–
Komplettes Studioset für Profis
  • 4 Softboxen: 60 x 40cm gross, 2x weiss & 2x schwarz
  • 2 Lampen: 65 W, CH-Stecker
66% Rabatt!
Would appreciate if someone could share their thoughts if above is good kit to start with. Thanks a lot! Sander

Hi Sander,
I checked the link and have some comments.
- How are the lights powered? From the photo it looks like its from a power pack/battery but this doesn't seem to be included in the package quoted
- Triggering the lights? It says either by cables or triggers, but again this doesn't seem to be included.

Another thing to consider is where you'll use these. I have some Manfrotto Nano stands for some umbrellas and flashes (you saw these at the bridge shoot a few months back) and in light wind outside they topple over very easily. It's a trade off between robustness and portability when it comes to stands. If its fixed indoors, you won't need to worry.

The softboxes look good though - typically you get better diffused light than that from an umbrella, though the bigger the box, the better.

Re: Basel Photoclub

Hi Dennis, thanks a lot for your valid comments and looks like I still have some homework to do. I think at the moment for me would be 1 softbox(flash being my only light source) + a simple reflector to light the other half/bottom of the face of the subject. Thanks again, Sander

Re: Basel Photoclub

Hi,

I'm in basel once in a blue moon for work. If I see one of your dates match, I'd love to come say hi. I'm brand new to this, always interested. Read a few newbie books and gifted myself a Nikon D600 + 28-300 + 50mm 1.8

See you

Re: Basel Photoclub

Is anyone up for the 28 days later shoot on the 22nd?
I'm thinking that we might stay in Basel to keep it simple this year and shoot Marktplatz and Basel SBB station.
I propose meeting up at Basel SBB around 2:45am to get photos of the inside without many people around. The train timetable for SBB says the following:
0250 - depart for Stein
0335 - arrival from Moehlin
0340 - arrival from Laufen etc
According to this (assuming that Swiss trains do actually run to time), there is a window of 45 minutes between 0250 and 0335 where there should be limited people around to appear in photos. We should be able to also get down onto the platforms to get some empty shots there as well.

From 0330, we can head outside and get some externals of SBB. Trams don't start until after 5am on Sunday and Nautical twilight (when light starts to appear in the sky) starts at 0405, so we should get some colour in the sky with some long exposure shots after 4:30 or so. Official sunrise is after 5:30 so people will be around at that point to "ruin" the shots.

Marktplatz we can also shoot but the ideal time would be between SBB internal and external shots - depends on how much walking you want to do.

I'll put up a social event in the social section. Please RSVP so I know who to expect

Re: Basel Photoclub

Just processed the photos from Saturday nights 28DL shoot. In the end it was just me but I guess a 1am start is probably asking a lot.

Started at Marktplatz and walked to Basel SBB. Didn't quite get the effect I wanted due to the cloud cover that came in at 2am, but still managed to get the station almost completely empty. Also got told off by the tripod police for taking "commercial" photos.

Here are a few from the shoot.
