I've also received some suggestions for the next photo outing from Sew. I'll put some up tomorrow - getting too late now to organise things

Re: Basel Photoclub

I've been forwarded a few day trip ideas for the next photography outing from Sew (10pixels) and am keen to hear from others what they would like to do.

They are out of Basel but considering the last trip we actually went into Italy for a few minutes, I doubt we can complain about the distance

2. Niederhorn (http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/nied...tain-trio.html)

3. Tübingen - Burg Hohenzollern
Tübingen

Wiki: About 6 km north of Tübingen, right in the Schönbuch forest reservation, is the old cistercian monastery (founded 1187 A.D.) of Bebenhausen (http://www.bebenhausen.de/) with a small village next to it, especially nice to visit at night when part of the monastery is illuminated.

4. Rhone Glacier and Furka Pass -
Rhone Glacier

Candice (Circe) from Zurich is also suggesting a meet on the 1st August

Quote:
Im headed to the Verzasca Valley in Ticiino. It's famous for many things, especially an old bridge. More info here:

I will stay in Sonogno on August 1st and 2nd and explore around from there. On saturday I'll decide if I move down the valley and stay in another town or head back to Züri. Let me know if anyone is interested in joining.

Please feel free to comment on what you'd like to see and what dates you are available. I'm busy between Aug 1-12 but other dates are good for me.

I'll post some other suggestions in the next few weeks for September meets and autumn colours

Hi guys,
here are few pics from our Matterhorn weekend. Unfortunately the startrail pic is not as nice as I expected as the trails are not consistent(did I perhaps use too high ISO? Don't think there was any camera shake...). On the other hand loved the reflection on the lake early Sunday morning Great weekend definitely! Will check the ideas you proposed for the next event and will send a separate message. Sander

Hello all,
unfortunately cannot join Candice this time as I just returned from holiday and cannot have any days off that quickly.
Tübingen - Burg Hohenzollern seems to be a good idea as well as the
Rhone Glacier and Furka Pass. If we visit these places we will be spending the night there, correct?

I also thought about the Swiss National Day - I think there will be some fireworks and maybe we could try to capture it? Last year the fireworks was very nice but the streets were extremely crowded so this kind of a shoot could be quite challenging.... Let me know what do you think. Sander

The gaps are from gaps in exposure so for certain periods you weren't taking photos. Could be due to the remote release you were using as it seemed complicated and kept on stopping for various reasons. You might need to practice with the remote to get the continous settings sorted.

Really like the 2nd shot by the way with the reflection.

Are there any details on the timings? I shot the new years fireworks (they started at 12:30am, instead of midnight strangely) and got a vantage point at Johannesbruke about an hour before they started. Ideally, you'd need to be there about 90 minutes as I was lucky that I got the space I did.

Thanks for your comments, Dennis, and will give the startrails another try soon.
Regarding the timing for the fireworks - I checked and the fireworks is planned from 23.00 until 23.25(itinerary enclosed), Johannesbruke or Wettsteinbrücke could be a good vantage point I guess. If anyone is interested I'm planning to be there around 21.30. Sander

Re: Basel Photoclub

Hi Everyone,

I'm relatively new to the area and interested in photography, and just came across your group on the forum. Is this just an online thing, or are there meetups and shootings ( photo before some sarky bugger thinks i want to murder people ) Also fairly new, well inexperienced to the whole forum thing, so just saying hello really

Would be great to get to know a few people, and learn some expert advice on photography and the best places for shots in Basel

Kind Regards

Carl

Re: Basel Photoclub

Hi Carl,
It's sort of an ad-hoc group and we try to meet up once a month, depending on if we can find something to shoot. If you scroll back you'll see that so far in 2013 we've been to deserted railways, fasnacht, Novartis campus and a few weeks ago we did a weekend away to Matterhorn.

Next shoot will probably be as Sander suggested above by getting some firework shots for National Day on the evening of the 31st.

The group is mostly amateur so can't guarantee expert help but I'm sure we'll be able to pick up some tips and trips from each other.

Activity here isn't very high so try to check back about once a week to see if there is anything new. The email update thing is a bit hit and miss.
Dennis

Sander,
Can you post details of where you'll be?
I can't make it tonight unfortunately as the wife wants to head out and I'm left babysitting. Good excuse to catch up on some photoshopping though

We try to meet up once a month. I think the National Day fireworks was the last meet up. I'll try arrange something for the next few weeks. Had some friends over from the UK for the last 10 days so been a little busy.

Re: Basel Photoclub

I wonder if there is enough interest for Rhone Glacier and Furka Pass? I know Sander is. The theme this time would be Alpine sunrise/sunset and a hike to the glacier from Hotel Belvedere - see link below :

http://www.gletscher.ch/Belvedere/Hotel-Restaurant.html

It's a fair way away so it makes sense to stay overnight for the sunrise and sunset shots. There might be a chance for those who are coming along for the first time to try the star trail photography.

Since this short notice, I will be making enquiries at the hotel for September 14 or 21. Would those interested please state preference date? I need to know soon-ish.

Here's to the next trip and lots of fun...

I'm on vacation in Italy on those dates sadly, otherwise I'd be up for it.

Re: Basel Photoclub

Dennis

Since it is short notice, I may have to change the dates based on when we can get accomodation, preferably earlier. It is possible that we may have to put it down for next year as the season is coming to an end.

If that doesn't work out, we can set a date for Sankt Blasien. No accomodation required as it is much nearer.

No worries Sew, I'm out between 6-22 Sept so don't worry about trying to shift dates too much for my benefit. I'll be taking plenty of photos in Italy

Thanks for taking the lead on this, been really busy of late.

While I think of it, would people prefer if I set up a facebook group for meets instead of arranging soley via EF? Comments I had from Matterhorn trip was that most folks don't check EF regularly so was wondering if facebook was a better avenue?
