I tend to shop around on Toppreise.ch for most camera goodies. Here's a search for ND8s. I find that the price of most photo gear in brick-and-mortar shops (at least in Zurich) tends to be significantly more expensive.

Oh yeah, filters, remotes, extra battery, extra memory card... and yeah these are only the small things. I justified to spend around 500 or 600 franks on a camera, thinking I could use it for life for much higher quality photos, and would not need to spend more on this stuff... Now I have a new lens, more expensive than the camera, and I am saving for the next lens, also more expensive than the camera... and yeah, did I mention, this camera is getting to small for those great lenses, I'm thinking about upgrading the camera as well... And they say this group is free.... hehehe...

Hi All, just found this great site - considering I have been based in Basel for nearly 3 years, that's pretty poor on my account! But I was impressed by there being a Basel Photo group. I'm fairly new in to Photography and have a basic D60. Doing a course in London end of August and currently playing around with a website for my pics. Would be great to learn off others and hone my skills and also socialise! Im just working away right now, but back in Basel in October full time, so hopefully I can get more involved.
Would love to join the group - Do I need do anything?
Thanks
Lee

They're certainly cheaper on there, my current ND4 was 58CHF! I think I'll have to get a card in CHF that I can use on the net...

Hi Chris,
why not get an SBB half price card as a prepaid visa card. That way you can buy stuff on the net without needing to a apply for a full credit card.
Have fun

Hello I am searching for an amatuer photographer who would like to do some before and after shots for me. This would take place at my hair salon www.hairdesignbybarry.ch on Oct. 13, 14 & 15 2009. It will be 3, 7-8 hour days. We will start at 9:00 and finish around 19:00 with 1 hour break for lunch. I am doing a make-over session with a NY make-up artist and will need photos before makeup and after the hairstyling. It will be approx. 32-35 persons that will need head shots. If anyone is interested in making extra money please contact me through the private message with your info and pricing. Thanks, Barry

Hi Everyone,
I'm starting to arrange the second night/long exposure shoot as promised
How does the evening of 21st sound to everyone please?
We'll kick off a bit earlier this time, so we can start shooting around dusk.

I'm up for that. Where are you thinking?
You know, as Martin mentioned to me the other night that my little town of Bern has some great photo ops with night time potential.... |

So, I followed my pack and went to our friend mr. Marlin and order a ND8 as well
You know... we should maybe go together one day and ask him to sponsor us, or give clubmembers discount? I think we are not going to stop from this point... |

Hi,
I would suggest starting off at the Munster or maybe at Wettsteinbrücke a little earlier in the evening as you can some great shots at the moment Basel being lit up at night.
For example, this would make a great shot: http://www.chillamrhy.ch
I enjoyed last time so i will come along next time.
Have fun

In regards of the next calendar meeting:
I'm glad I already had my share of light-painting experiments.. so I wont miss too much this meeting. I havent been around for a long time, but after this last missed meeting I'm finally gonna have time to attend the EF events again. Really looking forward. Enjoy this one guys and gals.

I would so love to do that kind of portraiture shootings demanded by harry's hair design to gather some experience. A shame it's hard to find a customer who'd care to invest in equipment since I don't have what I would need yet. A crispy nice sigma portrait lens and 1, preferably 2 of the new nissin professional flash models. *sigh*.. Those dates during the mid of the week are quite a tough one anyway. I wish some good fun and luck to the person actually going for that work oppportunity. I'm probably gonna read some more about portraits, and save up for sigmas and nissins.

Begga is absolutely right; At first you really think that new cam body plus some regular kit is gonna last for ever... And now? - I am being mind-boggled by 2-3 types of prime lenses constantly... not even talking about the regularly needed accesories. :S Photography can be a true curse, sometimes. But I'm glad it still has so many upsides; Finally managed to up some of my more recent shots, comments and harsh critics are always welcome: http://www.flickr.com/photos/36149902@N06/ |

An excellent opportunity for shutterbugs like us is happening in Bern this weekend. http://www.gp-suisse.ch/
I plan to be out there filling my SD cards with images of these vintage racers. If anyone is planning to attend the GP events, let me know and maybe we can hook up. I'll be at the Altstadt events on Saturday evening and at the "races" all day Sunday.
