City/Town: Basel
Event Type: Other
Meeting Point: Rhein

National Day of Switzerland is coming up.
Let's catch the spirit of Switzerland. If anyone wants to meet up on Friday 31. July to snap the fireworks over the Rhein, I could use some company.
Another topic is the 1. August - catch the moment of what is Swiss and post it on our Flickr group.
Again, if anyone cares for company 1. August, I am very free!
RSVP'd Yes: 4 (4 members and No guests) RSVP'd Maybe: 2 (1 members and 1 guests) RSVP'd No: 4
  • mavina - I wish I could go but I have plans. Hopefully, I will still have some fireworks photos to post.
  • Slaphead - Will be in England unfortunately.
  • RolandL - Thanks Begga, but I fear I would not bring my camera home after all the late-nite-to-early-morning festivities.
  • Arridge - Would like to, but will be model shooting all weekend :-)
RSVP sign-ups for this event are now closed.

p.s. If you want to spend these days with your friends or family, we will not get offended... you can still join the theme, snap photos with this theme in mind and post it on Flickr.

Re: Basel Photoclub - National day of Switzerland

Where were you thinking of going please Begga?
I was thinking of pitching my tripod on either Wettsteinbruche bridge or the bridge near Novartis (the one with the motorway under it), in the hopes of getting a better view than I would on the banks. I'm guessing they'll be packed to overflowing with people for the display!

Re: Basel Photoclub - National day of Switzerland

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea Chris. Last year was pretty crowed so probably we would need to get there early. The fireworks starts at 21:30, so probably it would be good idea to go even earlier than 21:00?

Just so you are not hanging around waiting, the fireworks start at 23:15 (and not 21:30, although the fireboat etc will be doing their stuff the whole evening) and are 25mins long this year:

Yes, thanks mate. I got wrong information... I saw the correct one in the post Mr. Wessex posted.
However there seems to be few interesting things going well who could make a nice shot, like the alp horns...

I think I will be there around 20:30 or so to check the town out... I'm not sure about good meeting point, it will be crowded tonight for sure. I have both Keven's and Chris' phonenumber, I'll PM it to you Sara.

Re: Basel Photoclub - National day of Switzerland

I was planning on going a little later, maybe between 9 and 10, as I don't think I'll last all night othewise (bit drained at the moment!).
I'm not sure about a meeting place, every place I can think of I'd guess will be packed...

Re: Basel Photoclub - National day of Switzerland

Although the situation was "interesting" and "challenging" due to the crowed I have more photos I like that I could dream of from our location
Thanks CK for the company

p.s. Arridge, I simply don't believe you choose models over us??

Re: Basel Photoclub - National day of Switzerland

I wish I could have gone with you last night. My previous plans did not materialize as I have been down with the flu for the past couple of days. As I was feeling a bit better, I did take a little walk downtown and got a couple of nice long exposure shots. I'll post them soon.

Btw, who is the moderator for the Basel Flickr group? I have not yet been accepted.

Yeah, I was leaving it on continuous shooting for a few minutes at a time, in the hopes that would increase my chances of getting good shots of the fireworks. I didn't work out quite as planned though...
