Doesn't the train from Basel go through Zurich Anyway. The return is from Luzern. We need ten people to get the discount so if you can get 10 people from Basel you should also get a deal.

| | | Re: Photography trip to Mount Rigi Lucern I am confused. Maybe it’s just me, but maybe we had all better get out a map and a timetable and look up the exact places Karlnmik means. | Quote: | | | | | The train is not to Luzern but is to Arth-Goldau. | | | | | The station in Arth-Goldau cannot be what Karlnmik meant when he said “short walk to harbour to get to the boat to the bottom of the mountain” as you cannot ‘short walk to the harbour’ there. The railway station is in Goldau and Arth is on Lake Zug. Sure, one can go up the Rigi from Goldau but there are two cog railways up the mountain. The Rigi Bahn from Goldau is one and there is another from Vitznau on Lake Lucerne. However, as Bananhead points out, a train at 9.01 goes from Zürich to Arth-Goldau but there doesn’t seem to be a train at 9.01 going to Lucerne on that day. There’s one at 9.04 which goes to Lucerne. I can’t work it out either. | Quote: | | | | | Doesn't the train from Basel go through Zurich Anyway. | | | | | From Basel the fastest trains to Lucerne only take about an hour and don’t go towards Zürich for long. I believe they go through Olten and then keep going more or less south east. For those who might be interested, there are not only two cog-wheel railway but also two cable-cars on the Rigi (besides the Urmiberg one). One cable-car goes down to Weggis and one down from the Seebodenalp to Küssnacht am Rigi. Couldn’t find a decent map with all the stuff I wanted on it. This will have to do.

As stated at the top of the thread. It says this is roughly what will happen. Full details will be posted in due courSe.
Please bear with us in the meantime. Thankyou | Quote: | | | | | I am confused. If it helps (sorry if it doesn't)
We have done Rigi by boat from Luzern to Vitznau - from Vitznau take the train up to Rigi Kulm - then came back down via cable car to Weggis, picked the boat back up from here back to Luzern
It is still one of my favourite trips - think you'll have a great day out

Don't worry. We have been to the train station and asked the man. He gave us the Rigi-Guide 2009. It has a map. It has timetables. Depart Zurich HB at 09:01 Regular train Arrive Arth-Goldau at 09:45 Depart Arth-Goldau at 10:10 Cog railway Arrive at Rigi Kulm at 10:47 Depart Rigi Kulm at 15:00 Cog railway Arrive Kaltbad First at 15:14 Depart Kaltbad at 15:20 Cablecar Arrive Weggis at 15:30 Depart Weggis at 16:05 Boat Arrive Luzern at 16:47 Depart Luzern at 18:10 Regular train Arrive Zurich at 18:56 If the Basel people want to meet in Arth-Goldau then I am sure we can work something out. As the lovely Nicky says, it is a great trip with lots of different photo opportunities. | | This user would like to thank Bananahead for this useful post:

| | | Re: Photography trip to Mount Rigi Lucern Sorry, have to disappoint you about my presence on this trip. I’m not into photography at all. I once owned half a camera – took about 15 photos and that was it. I leave this job to the other three members of the family who are good at it! The only reason I read this Thread is because I know the region and I was, and still am, confused about which route you are taking. As I said in my longer post | Quote: | | | | | In short the idea is roughly the following.Train from Zurich to Luzern. Short walk to harbour to get the boat to the bottom of the mountain. Cog wheel train to the top. | | | | | | Quote: | | | | | Depart Zurich HB at 09:01 Regular train Arrive Arth-Goldau at 09:45 Depart Arth-Goldau at 10:10 Cog railway | | | | | To my mind, these two statements contradict each other. | Quote: | | | | | Don't worry. We have been to the train station and asked the man. He gave us the Rigi-Guide 2009. It has a map. It has timetables. | | | | | Perhaps the man at the station was simply asked how one gets from Zürich to Rigi Kulm. He gave one of the many possible answers. Having had (negative) experiences with this sort of thing, I look at the situation thus: Someone might be late, try to catch up with the rest of you – and whether this should be in the cog-railway in Goldau after a train journey, or the cog-railway in Vitznau after a boat trip from Lucerne is anybody’s guess. Joining the group at the top would be fine, except that you probably don’t all know each other by sight and if the weather is good there may be one or two other groups up there also carrying cameras. And just for the record, half the Rigi is indeed in Canton Lucerne but the Arth-Goldau side is in Canton Schwyz.

I've had some negative experiences with groups of people where some arrive very late. We had one dinner booked at 7pm and some people arrived at 8:30! So, those signing up for this event please be on time and don't mess it up for everyone else.
Great idea for an event though, we take all our visitors up the Rigi. Getting the cabel car from Rigi Kaltbad is a good idea, but it doesn't go that often (no time for looking in the shops at Rigi Kaltbad) and you can miss the connecting boat of you don't walk fast enough at the other end. 9 of us went last summer and we had to get everyone moving Arriving in Luzern by boat is fantastic too.

And there is a direct train from Basel to Luzern (with a stop in Olten, not Zurich) who takes about one hour. Direct train from Basel to Zurich also takes one hour...

I think you really need to define this better because I checked with SBB, and the best offer from Basel to Rigi Klum, is for 72 with halbtax.
But with this group offer it is 48.6 + 31 (back and forth from Basel to Zurich) = 79.6
So I don't really see why we would join this group offer |

Included is a CHF 10 lunch voucher to spend on the Rigi. You might just get a hamburger with that at the small place by Rigi Kulm train station
