| | | Weekend drinks
I'm simply wanting to gauge the interest in drinks on a Friday or a Saturday night as there doesn't seem to be any kind of regular weekend event of this ilk
As much as I love the Talacker events, the big downside for me, and at least one other Talacker regular, is that we have to get up early and work the next day. Therefore we are not able to enjoy the evening to the fullest extent safe in the knowledge that we will be functional the day after.
I am more than happy to perform a couple of lone reconnaissance missions in order to ascertain the suitability of various bars with respect to seating, service, and of course quality of beer. However anyone willing to assist with this arduous task is more than welcome to join me. Also if anybody has a good suggestion for a venue then by all means mention it.
I must say at this point that this is in no way an attempt to hijack the Talacker events as I myself will continue to religiously attend. I'm thinking of it as a complimentary event which would initially be once a month, and would allow those with weekday responsibilities to relax into the evening without that nagging "I've got to work tomorrow" feeling
If there's enough interest then I'll arrange an event.

Weekends would be a great idea... I don't attend the midweek ones for similar reasons to yourself... Why not set one up in the calendar with the RSVP function and see what happens...

Good idea. I will be up for it atleast once a month. I don't even mind in helping organizing such events.

I would like to meet up with the Zurich guys/girls, but since I don't live there I can't join every time. Weekends would def. be better for me. |

Not much point making it a Saturday if most people would prefer a friday.
I'll let the poll run over the weekend and then make an event. A glance at the poll shows, even at this point, that the event is likely to be popular, so an event is pretty much guaranteed.

Any event with booze and/or tassles[pasties] is guaranteed to be a whopper.

A word to the wise: weekends are the natural time for late nighters, but consider many places in the city centre are pumping full (of Argauers ) and finding a bar which would book a reserved area for 25+ people are few and far between: it is, after all, their busiest times.
May I add I-B-Deborah's idea of the Rote Fabrik? It can take anything you throw at it, the food's fantastic and the miserable chap with the grey hair has a great line in put-downs
Good idea, Slaphead!

Personally I can't join on week-ends but even if I could, I still prefer the week-days to the week-ends. I like the week-day atmosphere and the week-day crowd a lot more. | Quote: | | | | | many places in the city centre are pumping full (of Argauers ) | | | | | | | This user would like to thank Tilia for this useful post: | |

So then would anyone like to do something this weekend? And by 'do', I don't mean that 'do'. |

The one option you missed off, and something I really miss from the UK, is Sunday lunch drinks, slowly sinking into Sunday afternoon session drinks, sipping champagne outside or knocking back the ales in a pub watching footy on the box. Easy for most folk to get home from too (if you don't live in town like us)

The Shamrock in Wollishofen is a nice little pub, plus we have more or less tamed the bar staff.

I don't mind what day either....
But if you won't mind my opinion, I quite like it to stand up and mingle with people. I'd much more prefer a bar full with people standing up. This will give you a chance to talk to several people and makes it all a bit more relaxed.
I've only been to the Talacker Bar event once now and maybe this is not the same every time but the whole seating area idea was a bit too static for me, which is why I ended up standing around in front of the bar.
But everyone's different.... just wanted to say that maybe there's potential for a weekend event that is not a seated one.

I totally agree with you! The mingling-factor at Talacker is lousy. | Quote: | | | | | I don't mind what day either....

The corner at the Talacker is a good focal point. It's not the seating which interferes with mingling
Getting people sitting at tables to mingle can prove tricky, as can trying to corral a disparate standing group to somehow mix with each other. The seating area at least helps new faces to anchor at a base, before wandering around.
The best option would be a private function room, where everyone there is from the group. But that takes deposits, effort and perhaps a sense of the office party. Dunno.
