Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Lovely to welcome newcomers last night, it was a marvelous event, wasn't it...We do have to work a little harder to inspire the bartender, crazy disco muzzak is not so condusive, innit.

Ok, next event - Oct 6th, same place, same time, let's move it to 7pm if that suits the majority. Kazuo Ishiguro it is, Never let me go.

The voting poll for the next titles is coming up soon, keep an eye on the thread.

The French book club is coming into life soon, send me a pm if interested.

Excellent, I've already got that one and according to my calendar hubby isn't travelling that week - at the moment...

Soooooort of interested in the French book club, but the idea's a bit scary. I can, and do, read novels in French, but mostly thrillers and chick lit, nothing literary or pre-20th Century. And I'd need more than a few weeks between meetings!

I've just got hold of an electronic copy of the 'Never Let Me Go' book, so have a paper copy going spare if anyone would like it. First to PM me can have it posted to them in exchange for buying me a glass of wine at the meeting.

And if anyone has an Apple i-Pod/ Phone/ Pad, and would like to know where to get a copy of the book, PM me.

Oh, cmon, jump right in, it's fun, nothing academic, it will give you a proper boost to be ahead of your boy and motivate him. I actually never really thought about reading in Fr, then had to read a book for an exam and so I did and realized I can read books, as oposed to boring research papers and lectures that aren't that difficult, since it is always the same. Lit is great. I would actually like a short play first, 20 tiny pages, nothing big and complicated, great writer. I would need more time, too, though, too much to do these days, like everyone. No rush.

Yup, it was a nice evening with ten of us getting together for a few drinks and chit chat.

Gotta go order that book, and MC, you need to send me the list of other books so I can setup the voting thingie.

cheers

Re: Book club / Reading group in / around Morges

Just checking if this is going ahead tonight?

Also, do any of you regulars swap books? I have quite a few I've collected over the years and would be interested in swapping if anyone else might be interested. Not sure the best way to go about it though...

anyhow, the real reason for the post is to see if the meet up is till on for tonight!

I bought some books at Payot (Flon, opposite to the Brasserie, where the parking lot is), a shop I like. Even if they don't have it in stock it will be ordered quickly.

But I think buying it online will be cheaper...

Everyone,

This doesn't have to be a complicated exercise - ordering books in bulk way in advance etc . There is an English bookstore in Lausanne! And they have a website

My aim when I started this thread was to start up an easy going book club where we go month by month.
So each meet up everyone brings their diaries (or brains) (or both), we pick the book, day and place for the next meeting.

Some people (especially Mums) will find this difficult along with all the other things they have to organise in life!

Can we just keep it simple?
Hi, I would love to join a simple and fun book club too please. I live close to Morges and it sounds like a wonderful idea.
I will be keeping an eye out to see what day/time venue etc is established
Will it only be a day thing or evening, so many posts with different ideas.
Its exciting

It's a 2-3hr relaxed evening event, nice to see we are growing.

The thread is older, so yeah, there are many suggestions. We have been around for a year. Just come oct 6th, 7pm, the book we are discussing is Kazuo Ishiguro it is, Never let me go.

We will be posting a social event, keep an eye on the calendar.

Hey, I am trying to push through, so I can pass it on, but it is a little slow, too much to do on my plate right this minute, I will let you know, plus amaraya wanted to read it too, am not sure if she still has the time for it. What happened to the book poll? Is Shini alright?

Should we have read this by the next meeting?? I still have also not found a copy...
As soon as we know the next book I'll be using http://www.bookdepository.co.uk . Free shipping to CH and the prices are pretty good.

I ordered 'Never let me go' on the 24th of september, received an email on the 27th that it was shipped and I'm still waiting for it!

Even if it arrives tomorrow I won't be able to read it till wednesday.
